Walk and I won't touch the girl.
Walk and she'll live.
Jerome knew who the sender was even without a signature. He also knew better than to ignore the short letter. Rufus was dangerous; you'd have to be utterly stupid not to know that. He wouldn't stop at anything to get what he wanted. And, right now, what he wanted was Jerome.
LINE BREAK
The residents of Anubis sat at the dining table; all except for Jerome. The blonde was getting ready to leave, to surrender himself to a psychopath. At least, he reminded himself, he was saving somebody that he loved.
He really did love Mara. She had been the center of all his thoughts ever since they'd started going out. Well, even before that. He'd promised himself when he first started working for the other side that he would never get Mara involved in any of it. A month ago, Jerome finally came to sense and realized he should be helping his friends.
Rufus didn't seem to like that idea.
Now, here he was. On the other end of the stick. He was usually the one doing the blackmailing. Maybe he deserved this.
What Jerome still couldn't figure out was whether or not to say goodbye. Goodbyes were always ugly but Jerome couldn't stand to leave her without a proper farewell. He knew that he would never be able to come back.
After a while of thinking and pondering, he settled for writing her a letter. A simple letter to let her know that he loved her. He picked up a pen, found a piece of paper and wrote-
Mara, I love you. I really do.
But I have to go. I hope, one day, you'll understand.
You're safe now.
Love always, Jerome. x
A single tear rolled down his pink cheeks; he didn't bother to wipe it away. Folding the letter, Jerome placed it on his pillow, knowing that Mara would come looking for him.
He grabbed his backpack and opened the window to its full height, slipping his lanky form past the ledge.
And, with that, he was gone.
Short, I know. But there's nothing more that I want to add to it.
