Near Headstones

The rain fell like tears from the heavens as Gwen sobbed next to the headstone of her deceased Grandfather. She laid down several roses. She missed him terribly. She used a hand to wipe away her tears but they would not cease. She often regretted being a woman on the account of so many tears. She observed her cousin, Ben. He stood very stoically.

"Men don't cry," she thought. "Though it makes Ben look like he's developed a cold heart." She wiped her face again. She departed from the headstone.

"I am going to remain here for a few more minutes," Ben told her.

"Okay then," Gwen responded.

Gwen turned and walked away from her cousin. She paused and looked back. She witnessed tears sliding down Ben's face.

"Maybe men can cry after all," she thought as she watched Ben break down in sobs and drop to his knees. "He must have needed to cry a lot after so many years of never crying," she said quietly.

Unknown to Gwen, Ben had gotten into an argument with his Grandfather hours before he died and never been able to apologize for it. The tears were a sign of his eternal regret.

The End!
