Ruby Megan Taylor smiled to herself as she hit the upload button on the youtube page of her brand new Macbook. Everything was fantastic. She was a regular youtube uploader and a favourite for her phenominal vocal and guitar covers. 3 weeks after moving to Los Angeles to attend the famous Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising she had her whole life planned ahead, she would eventually finish her degree in Fashion Design, become a fashion journalist and continue her hobby of entertaining youtube viewers, something she'd been doing over the past year after a random video created by boredom and a deadly quiet house found it's way onto the site and actually got a reasonable amount of views.
She'd been an amazing singer not long after she learnt to talk, and was never afraid to have a go on her sister's kareoke machine, but since moving all the way over to Los Angeles from Kent in England, music was her only way of feeling at home...it's not like there was much else to do in her almost empty apartment. She'd made a few friends from college and had been out with them to restaurants and a few clubs but this heightened the feeling of loneliness that emerged when she arrived in the one-bedroom flat she called home.
It's not that she didn't like L.A. In fact she loved it. It was much more exciting than her boring, grey town of Maidstone . L.A was incredible and there was so much for one to do and everybody was so beautiful. She did love Kent, all of her friends were there and her family who supported her move so much, lending her a little extra money, packing her stuff, driving her to the airport – Ruby wasnt a cryer but 5 minutes after entering the plane she locked herself in the toilet and poured her heart out, but she knew she was doing the right thing. She'd tried so hard to make this new life happen, it took her a many long, underpaid hours as a barmaid to get herself enough money for her new furniture in L.A and the flight over, and the first months rent for the appartment...and to actually find an appartment for rent online – nothing fancy, just a simple one-story, one-bedroom flat by a train track. Shortly after her arrival, she knew she would have to go job hunting, and was lucky enough to pull a waitressing job at Zagat, something to keep the rent in.
There was a lot about this city that Ruby found...different. It was just constantly alive, 24/7, and there didnt seem to be a quiet hour. However her hometime and upbring made her feel like an outcast, but she knew that things could only get better from here on in. She was going to be a fashion journalist, she would travel – there would never be time to fit in! And never any room for loneliness. She would be gorgeous and confident Ruby Taylor, who met new people every day. Youtube was an amazing way to gain her confidence but she was convinced that earning a living out of entertaining music lovers wasn't an option. There was no way she could even think about doing it. No way.
She had no idea what lay ahead.
