She looked down, purple hues widening when she realized how far she was from the ground for the first time after she jumped from the speeding train and the sudden rush of adrenaline pumped in her body leaving her breathless. What the hell was wrong with her? How could she have even agreed to this in the first place! Tightening her grip on the cat they were supposed to return to it's owner she closed her eyes and braced herself for impact as the water down below was coming close.
All of these moments made her question why exactly she agreed to join this crazy life of adventure as a Sket Dan member. The danger and the tears this job brought her made her look in a mirror and see her past self looking back at her with a sneer. How cute, the little oni thinks she can change. Think she can escape the reality of her actions.
Why did she join?
Her eyes opened a bit and finally met with light brown eyes, filled with a childish innocence that annoyed her yet at the same time she found them endearing, that were wide as he too fell towards the water, were calling for her to take his hand. Her eyes brightened and she smiled widely before taking his hand with hers.
For a moment the world disappeared and it was only them. Her hero and her. And then it all came rushing back to her. The tears that were from sadness were changed to happiness. The danger they went through, scratches and everything, was worth it when they got to see the relief in the person's eyes when the job was done; the hope that was reignited in people's heart from the mere fact that they would be OK because they trusted the Sket Dan's words, his words, and actions.
Ever day was an adventure that brought her so many feelings all at once. And even though at time her own hope would diminish and the past caught up to her...
Their hands finally clasped around each other tightly, bringing them closer as they finally entered the cold water with a loud splash. His hand never left hers, however, even as he struggled to get to the surface. Because he too would question himself as their days grew more wild and crazy and tiring, he too saw the pain that appeared as a situation caused them to recall their own painful pasts. Yet as he sneezed from the cold he was starting to get and she laughed whole heartedly at the fact that he was the only one crazy enough to fly after her to the river even though she was sure to be fine. He wouldn't let go off her hand.
Reassuring her that she would be fine; that he would be there with her today and what crazy adventure tomorrow would bring.
And she believed him.
