We're out in the forest, not too far from the cabin. It's nice out here, peaceful. Although it is very cold, I don't mind. Logan is content out here, which makes me happy too. Anything for him, even freezing my tail off!
We're standing overlooking a deep ravine, Logan looking out into the distance, me looking at Logan. Low clouds hang over the horizon, promising rain later on, but of now it is calm.
In the distance, a wolf howls, a long plaintive cry. The wind stirs through the trees, and the rain begin to fall. Logan looks over at me, grinning.
"C'mon Elf," he similes, "Race you back!"
And he's off trying to outrun me.
We run through the pelting rain, laughing. Thunder crashes around us, lightning shatters the semi-darkness. I look across at Logan; see him caught off his guard in a moment of joy. He loves the rain, and I love him.
The rain soaks his hair, slicking it down onto his face, water streaming off his shoulders. I'm too focused on watching him, and I trip and fall.
"Sheisse!" I snap, switching to my native language in a moment of irritation and embarrassment.
Logan bends down to pick me up, and instead of setting me back on my feet, he holds me in his arms and keeps running. I wrap my hands around his neck and bury my face in his chest.
We're completely soaked by the time we reach the cabin. Logan nudges the door open and carries me inside. He sets me down and hurries into another room to get towels and dry clothes. Well, not so much the clothes … but anyway.
He returns, and we undress out of our wet things. Once we're dry, neither of us seems willing to actually dress again. Logan pads softly into the bedroom, flicking on the electric lights as he goes. When he doesn't come back, I follow him.
Sure enough, he's there, leaning back against the headboard of our bed. I climb into bed next to him, and snuggle up against his chest. He pulls me close, and in a swift move, rolls on top of me. He kisses me passionately, and my fingers tangle in his damp hair. And then, with a snap, the lights go out.
On top of me, I feel Logan stiffen alert and tense. In a second he is up, pacing around. I slip out of bed and join him, my body thrumming with adrenaline.
"Logan?" I ask, "was ist los?"
"Dunno." Logan replies, sniffing the air.
Then, I move, teleporting to the other side of the house. We search the cabin quickly and methodically, but we're the only one's there. We stop short of each other, only just touching and even through I can't see Logan's face, I know he is worried.
"There's no-one here." I assure him. "What's worrying you?"
"Not sure," he says, a little darkly, "something don't feel right…"
"Well, I think I can fix that…" I say, leading him back into our bedroom…
