"Dean, we have to talk about the couch. I think blue-"Lindsay said as she
was walking out of the condo. Rory and Dean pulled away from each other in
just enough time to look as if they were just talking. "Oh, there you are
Dean. Hi, Rory. I thought you left for Yale."
"She was just stopping by to say goodbye" Dean said and kissed Lindsay lightly on her lips." She may not come back for a while, and so she wanted to make sure she said goodbye. Bye Rory, I'll see you later." When Dean looked at her, there was no twinkle in his eye. Lindsay looked up at Dean and Rory saw for the first time what she hoped was not true: they were in love. What am I doing? Rory thought.
"Well, bye! I wish I could see your new condo, but I really have to go, bye." Rory said as she ran back to her car. How could I be so blind? Of course he loves Lindsay. If he loved me he would have talked to me after That Night. How could I have thought that he still loved me? Rory drove home to talk to Lorelai. Lorelai always helped. Rory just hoped Luke wasn't there. Ever since Luke and Lorelai started going out, Luke's been over, A LOT. It's not that Rory didn't like Luke, but sometimes she just needed mom.
Rory realized as she was driving over there that Jess might still be at Yale. Instead of driving to see mom, decided to drive back to Yale. She checked her gas and realized that she needed gas ASAP! She went to Gypsy's to get some gas but the place looked abandoned. "Hello?" she said as she walked in.
"I mean, how much does a guy have to change for the love of his life?" a voice said within. Huh? Rory thought and she cautiously continued on." I love this girl, but I'm getting fed up. I had to wait until she realized we were meant to be together. We kissed at Sookie's wedding, and I was so happy. Then I found out she was still with Dean. When he finally broke up with her because even he could see we loved each other, I was going out with this dumbo already. I broke up with her, but it was hard. She really understood me. I'm not saying I'd rather be with her than Rory, but I was comfortable with her. Maybe it was all a waste. She hates me now anyway." Rory knew once the voice said 'Sookie's wedding" she knew it was Jess. She then realized how many people she had truly hurt from being so self- centered and running away.
"Jess?" Rory said softly into the darkness. She found a door and opened. There was Gypsy's room with Jess and Lane talking, on a bed. Lane saw her, looked at Jess, looked at Rory again and then when Jess turned around and saw Rory, she almost ran away. No, she thought, I will not keep running away from my problems. "Jess" Rory said again, much louder this time. " Jess, I'm sorry."
"Rory! "Jess said and ran up to her," I can explain-"
"Jess, I've heard enough. You are such an amazing person, you should try someone new, someone who you don't have to change for." Rory said, finally telling Jess the real truth of why she always ran away." We may have loved each other-perhaps not at the same time-but we need to move on. I'm sorry, Jess." Rory then walked away and got into her car. She was just barely out of Stars Hollow when her car beeped at her. The gas! She never got the gas! Rory pulled over and turned off the car. She buttoned up her coat and reclined her chair. Who knows what will happen to me now? She thought as she slowly fell asleep.
