Eilanna Brandybuck was a child of the green things. She had been since the
King Vildir had come out of Gondor with his odd ways. The young king had
come to see her, when she was little more than a toddler, right after her
parents had died.
Eili lived now in Gardener's End instead of in Buckland, with one of Old Frodo Gardener's grandsons serving as a guardian until someone more suitable could be found.
It was quiet in the Shyre, and indeed all over Middle-Earth. Nothing had happened for years and years, forever some people said, and Eili wished that something had.
She knew very little about her parents, or about the Shyre, or about much of anything, but before five years more would pass she would know more about the world than any other hobbit in the Shyre.
