"I know that Dagur is your brother and your blood, but we are your family now, right? I mean, you're a dragon rider. We are a team. We need you."
Heather knew she had to leave at some point but she never expected it to happen so soon. She had barely even had time to settle down on Dragon's Edge, still sharing a hut with Astrid since she had not build her own yet, and all of the sudden Dagur shows up to take her away?
She had resisted her brother at first, denied his request for help to look for their father, but deep down she had always known he was right. She had to eventually return to the Beserker tribe and her roots.
As nice as the dragon riders were, she could never truly be one of them. They had grown up together and were all from the same tribe, and she sometimes felt like a stranger amongst them. It was especially evident during the times she had joined them to visit their home island. They all shared an emotional attachment to Berk which she could never understand. It was their home, not hers.
She felt like a visitor at best. Despite how kind the Hooligans were to her, she knew deep down she didn't belong there. She was a Beserker at heart like her brother and she could never truly be happy until she embraced who she was.
"But more than that.. I need you."
Falling for Fishlegs had not been a part of the plan.
She had always felt a fondness for him but never expected it to go anywhere.
While Astrid was her best friend and Hiccup was like a little brother to her, Fishlegs was the one she had connected with on a deeper level. He understood her more than anyone and was always there for her whenever she needed him. He made her feel like she was important. From the letters he had sent her to his sweet words and the constant reminders that she was one of them.
If anyone had come close to make her feel loved and appreciated it was Fishlegs.
"You have been looking for a home since the first day I met you, Heather. And maybe this is finally, your chance to find it."
She really had not wanted to leave him, he was her serenity and safe haven.
"...I will always be here for you."
But she had to go. They both knew it was inevitable.
"Are you finally ready to go home, sis?"
Heather snapped out of her thoughts to see Dagur flying beside her on Shattermaster.
She gave him a firm nod. "Ready as I will ever be."
"She will be safe with me," Dagur promised, holding out his hand to Fishlegs.
Fishlegs shot him a stern look before accepting the handshake. "She better be."
AN: I really loved Heathlegs in S4! I wanted to write a drabble about them exchanging letters but this turned into something else. Maybe next time.
