I am the one who knows you
"I don't get why she has to go through with this! Being fucking electrocuted! There has to be another way I know this doctor and my dad are just..full of shit!" Natalie ranted while Henry sat beside her and listened.
"I just…ugh I can't take it…I just need…."
"To get away." Henry finished for her. Natalie smiled.
"Do I say that a lot?" She asked.
"No, I just know you too well."
I am the one who cares
"Gabe this, your mother that. It's about them. Nothing is ever about me, no decision is made to benefit me, it's just…nobody cares."
"Hey!" Henry yelled into the phone, making Natalie jump.
"What?" She asked.
"I care."
I am the one who's always been there
Natalie sobbed into Henry's shirt.
"I'm sorry I told you I wouldn't go out tonight." She cried. "I just….I just…" She was totally drunk from her visit to the club that Henry saved her from.
"Shh….we'll talk later." Henry rubbed her back and hugged her.
"I'm a horrible girlfriend." She whispered.
"You're not." Henry insisted. "I love you." He told her.
"I…I..you're always here to take care of me and I just make you mad and lie and…I take advantage of you…" Natalie sobbed.
"It's alright, Natalie, please don't cry."
"And if I keep doing this, one day you'll get sick of me…"
"Never."
"And you won't be there to pick me up when I get into trouble."
"I'll always be there. Always have always will be." Henry argued.
And if you think that I just don't give a damn
"Just leave me alone."
"No, Natalie! Just talk to me, I can help! Please, I hate seeing you like this."
"Stop pretending you care."
Henry had been called a lot of things, and got into a lot of fights, but no word or sucker punch would ever hurt as much as knowing that Natalie didn't know how much he cared about her.
You just don't know who I am
It had been 28 hours, and she hadn't woken up. Car accident. She'd been on a billion pills and had been drinking and was driving herself to a club. It was bad.
Brain damage, spine bruises, fractured leg, predicted memory loss…
Henry remembered how the doctor had just rambled off all of the problems off of his stupid clipboard. Like it was no big deal, what had happened or what was wrong or how she was hurt. Henry sat in the chair beside Natalie's bed.
Out of the corner of his eye he saw movement and saw that she had opened her eyes.
"Natalie!" Henry took her in his arms, and kissed her lips gently. "You're awake!" he cried. "My God I was so worried, don't do this to me, ever again. I love you I ….." Henry trailed off when he saw the confused look on Natalie's face.
"Who are you?" She asked.
