A/N: I was unable to upload this one-shot to FanFiction for over a week, so I e-mailed the document to myself and then uploaded it to the internet from a library computer.
Disclaimer: I do not own the television show NCIS (Naval Criminal Investigation Service), Ziva David, or Tony DiNozzo. I, the author, do not make money from this story, and probably never will, unless the show decides to pay me for my idea like the makers of Star Trek payed some person for the idea of a certain character secretly being the father of another character in their DS9 plot.
Claimer: I did write this short-story and the visual imagery is mine.
"A Rescue, But No Resolution"
by: JustWriter
He picked her up and held her close to him. In her dazed state she heard his heavy breathing and his heartbeat. Even though she couldn't see him through her blackened eyes, she knew it was him; Tony.
Even after she'd snuck away from him without a word, he was still taking care of her. Did he really care about her that much? Gunshots sounded and she knew he'd been hit. His grunt and the way he'd turned their bodies suggested that he'd shielded her with his own body, and yet he was still moving forward at the same pace.
She heard the clanging of metal and knew he'd shut a metal garage door by cutting the chain, a few more feet, a thudding bang, and she felt warm water; rain. She was being rescued, but there was no resolution in sight. How would she speak to him?
There was more gunfire as he ducked and steadied his breathing. He didn't rest for long, as they soon went through the dried, wet grass. Her open wounds stung and she tried in vain to focus on the pain, rather than thinking of the way he smelled, the way he held her near. Despite her distractions these past few months, she knew without a doubt that she loved Tony; but did he still love her?
