The sound of birdsong is far sweeter,

Than any hymn of praise,

Self righteous hatred born of ignorance,

Is the most terrible of sins.

When I think of Everything, (or at least try to)

The infinite atoms of the universe reacting, fusing and splitting,

The countless cells in all life going about their business,

All life (plants, protists, people and everything else)

All the planets spinning 'round the stars,

Nebulas, comets, asteroids, and black holes.,

All the galaxies dancing through the cosmos,

When I try to wrap my mind around everything that's happening at this instant, everywhere throughout this vast universe, on every level,

(atomic, molecular, cellular, local, regional, national, global, interstellar, galactic, universal)

And that a little speck of stardust like me,

Is aware of itself,

And the universe,

Fills me with such wonder.

And I am confused,

Why do some Christians think,

That atheists like me are depressed?

I know that there is pain and suffering in the world,

But there is still laughter and love,

I think the world would be a better place,

If people realized other people were human.

Not souls to save,

Or resources,

Or enemies,

Or anything else but human,

Really considered that others had hopes, dreams,

Their own lives, families, homes, and memories.

Focus on the greatest common factor,

Our humanity,

I think empathy could save the world.

A/N: Yeah, kinda weird and rambling, and the verse isn't to good, so I'd like some constructive criticism, (don't worry, I know that constructive criticism does not have to say anything nice) and please don't simply say you liked it or you didn't. If anyone would like to make a comment about how the universe is evidence that god exists, give me evidence of why it supports the existence of your god and not the veracity of another religion.
