"…Renowned SciLab researcher and Official Netbattler, Lan Hikari, was found dead in his home three days ago. As you see here, the NetPolice are undergoing a full investigation, but so far have turned up a blank.
Lan Hikari was a well-loved member of ACDC Town's community, having lived most of his life in its tranquil suburbs, away from the hustle and bustle of inner-city life. He's achieved much in his time,including inventing the upgraded CopyBot V2, which is self-sustaining and allows our Navis to walk amongst us. His other achievements include almost single-handedly disbanding the organisation that called themselves the World Three, creating the VirusBuster program, and earning five commendations for special services to Net society.
He leaves behind a thirteen-year old child, Sia Hikari, a budding NetBattler who has already won many prizes with her customised Navi, .
Lan's funeral will be held on Thursday, in ACDC's public graveyard, where- BZZZZT"
Bright lances of color flick across the screen of the wall television, the only source of light in the dark room.
And then the set flickers off, plunging the room into darkness. A click, and a small yet bright glow lights up one corner of the room, silhouetting a man who had been stood in front of the TV, watching the broadcast.
The man picks up his PET.
Two words illuminate the screen – DOWNLOAD COMPLETE.
"Interesting… So my plan did not fail, as was first thought.
Time for stage two…"
