That's what makes you beautiful.
I laughed at my best friend's text; she could be so silly sometimes.
"Isabel!" My mom called my name form the living room.
"Yeah?"
"Someone here to see you." I heard her laugh and say something. I stood up and stretched. Homework was so tedious. Good thing it was May and almost the end of senior year. Two weeks until graduation; until freedom. I nearly laughed out loud at the joy of it.
"Isabel!" She called my name sternly.
"Sorry I'm coming." I skipped down the stairs and jerked to a halt next to my mom. There was a man in a business suit next to her.
"Hello." I said politely. The man beamed at me.
"Hello. I'm Peter Suzo. director of the alumni association for Oxford University."
"Pleased to meet you, Mr. Suzo. I'm Isabel, although I guess you already knew that."
"Yes, indeed, Ms. Summers. I know all about you."
"I'm guessing this isn't a social visit."
"No, ma'am. I'm here to...recruit you."
"Recruit me?"
"Yes. Your record is outstanding- both in and out of school. We feel that you'd fit in perfectly at Oxford."
"Well, I did apply. But I don't think we can afford it and I don't plan on passing by on student loans."
"We could arrange something."
"Mr. Suzo, my family doesn't have much money. I have a full scholarship to USF and that's something I'm counting on."
"I understand how you feel, Ms. Summers, but what would your response be if I told you that I was willing to offer you a full scholarship to Oxford as well?"
"A full scholarship to OXFORD?" He nodded. I let out a whoop of joy, pumping my fist in the air and jumping around.
"Isabel, behave." Hissed my mom. I looked at her, tears in my eyes and threw my arms around her.
"This is the best day ever!" Tears started to run down my face. This was a chance for me to grasp. A chance to be somebody. To have my name in lights.
"Does Oxford have a music department?"
"Ah, yes. I heard that you liked to sing and dabble with instruments. Yes, Oxford does have a music department, though not many people like to major in that, so it's mostly empty."
"Perfect, just how I like it."
"Am I to take that as a yes?"
"I'll need to visit the campus beforehand."
"Of course. And we'll be more than happy to pay for that. Two months in the summer?"
"Alright, deal." I stuck my hand out. His mouth turned up at the corners as he grasped my hand and gave it a quick, firm shake.
"We will email you as soon as we figure out a schedule."
"Thank you so much for this opportunity."
"No, thank YOU for allowing us to give you this opportunity." He smiled and touched his hand to his head in a quick salute. "Good day, Ms. Summers."
"Goddbye, Mr. Suzo."
