A Good Man
DISCLAIMER: I don't own anything.
Treville is completely unaware that he is a good man. He knows he believes in honour, which includes repaying debts. But this is one debt he will never be able to pay.
It takes him a while to find the grave. The only reason the grave exists is because the king was persuaded to grant a pardon after death. Treville stands for a moment before the grey slab of stone.
He was a good man. He deserved better than he got.
"You saved my life," he said. "I wish I could have saved yours."
The stone before him is silent, but something inside Treville feels a little lighter.
Maybe Lemay has accepted his apology.
Treville bows his head in respect, then turns and walks away.
Hope you enjoyed it!
