Little Kurt Hummel was young and lonely. He always knew he was different, preferring to play dress up, do hair, and sing than to play in the dirt and scrape his knees. He didn't understand why the boys were so mean. His dream was to find a boy best friend. One morning, Kurt was helping his mother plant flowers when he saw a large moving truck. "...mom. Mom. MOM. MOOOM! Someone's gonna live in that house!" Kurt squealed. Elizabeth looked at the items taken out of the truck and smiled at her son.
"I think they have a little boy too honey. Would you like to say hello once they've gotten settled?" She asked. Kurt shrugged, trying to act cool.
"Okay!"
The next day, Kurt stood at their neighbor's door as his mother rang the doorbell. The door opened to show a women about Elizabeth's age. "Hello! I'm Elizabeth Hummel and this is Kurt. We just wanted to welcome you to the neighborhood." Elizabeth greeted.
"Well thank you Elizabeth! I'm Doriane Anderson. Please, come in." She insisted, grinning when Kurt hid behind his mother's dress as they walked inside. "It's nice to meet you Kurt! Would you like to meet my son?" Doriane asked. Kurt nodded with a polite smile. "Blaine? Come say hello to our new neighbors!" She called. Another little boy walked in, sucking his thumb. "Blaine Devon Anderson what have I told you about thumb sucking?" His mother scolded.
"Thawry!" Blaine mumbled as he pulled it out. Kurt looked in wonder at the curly haired boy.
"Honey, this is Miss Hummel and her son Kurt." Doriane introduced. Blaine waved at Elizabeth, then turned his bright hazel eyes to Kurt. He walked up to Kurt, grabbed his hand, shook it sloppily, and started talking.
"HI KURT! My name's Blaine! You're very pretty!" He blabbered. Kurt stared at him with wide eyes.
"Blaine, how about you two go into your room and color?" Doriane offered. Blaine smiled wider and held out his hand. Kurt slowly took it
and was pulled up the stairs and into a room. Blaine took out papers and crayons and plopped onto the floor. Kurt didn't move.
"What's wrong? Don't you like coloring?" Blaine asked as he cocked his head. Kurt couldn't help a smile at how puppy-like he looked.
"I don't want to wrinkle my clothes." He said softly. Kurt expected Blaine to laugh, but Blaine just smiled as he picked up the papers and
crayons and sat at a small blue table.
"Better?" Blaine grinned. Kurt said nothing, but smiled and nodded back as he sat across from him. He sat quietly as they drew, listening to
Blaine babble about nothing in particular. "Are you okay Kurt?" Blaine asked randomly. Kurt bit his lip.
"I'm okay. I'm just...not used to boys being so nice to me." He replied with a slight sniff. Blaine cocked his head again.
"Do boys here not like you?" Blaine frowned in concern.
"Lots of boys think I'm too girly because I don't like lots of boy things." Kurt pouted, hanging his head.
"I think you're wonderful." Blaine stated. Kurt's head snapped up to see Blaine's innocent eyes now very serious, but still just as bright. He ran around the table and sat next to Kurt. "Kurt? Will you be my bestfriend?" Blaine said sweetly. Kurt smiled and nodded vigorously. Blaine hugged him tightly as they laughed. This was the start of a beautiful friendship.
