Fratricide
Kheelwithit
Draco is by no means dumb.
Of course, he's no prodigy either, not like Zabini or Nott, but certainly he should have at least theorized that his efforts were sabotaged.
No matter what drivel people spout about the 'complex macinations of spatial transportation magic', it's not all that hard. And even if that's Theo's genius speaking for him, there are always books. And Draco has never been short of supplies of any kind.
Not when the Dark Lord wants so very badly his entrance into the castle. No matter.
Draco's incompetance lends him an edge when he's carving alchemic circles into the dark wood on the bottom edges and under belly of the cabinet, and when he undoes every spell Draco tries with giant tomes scattered around his feet like leaves.
It honestly, is beautifully bold.
but Theodore gets the feeling that he's trying to save an icecube from cold.
He's undone a total of 8 successful attempts. Malfoy has never been stupid. But he is carless.
Really, he's not sure if Malfoy will survive his whole mess when he's this careless. Most everyone knows that Malfoy's up to something. How could they not? He never covers up the bags on his eyes, or puts glamours on his left wrist, or his right, where Nott knows there are neat little lines nor does he control the twitches when he stumbles in late at night, never quiet enough.
And even though everyone else don't know exacly what Theo does, Malfoy is still far too sloppy to survive.
He can't figure out why he feels like it's his responsibility to help him.
More often than though, he figures he'd have been better off if he didn't feel it, whatever the hell it is.
And if helping ( or is he hurting?) wasn't so damnably easy,
He could have turned away if he'd wanted to, Zabini did.
Though, he's already started it, so there's no use whinging.
In for a penny in for a pound.
Of course, he could always stop. He just can't bring himself to pay the price.
Theo closes his books with the flick of a wand and a final thud.
And as he steals away into bed and past Draco's body,
that he can see quaking, still, from the punishment of his failure,
He can't decide if his is an act of fraternity or fratricide.
