The Meadow

I walk towards the meadow, fond memories of my childhood flood through my mind. I suppress them as I hike up the hill. Once I reach the top I push my way through the overgrown shrubbery that's taken over and find myself in my childhood paradise. The meadow is still as green and leafy as ever, the small pond in the center's water sparkles and reflects the sun's bright rays. A few of the wild pokémon come up to me they seem to have grown more accustomed to humans since my departure. These small things make me miss home, but other things such as my father's abusive tongue keep me far away.

I bend over and pat a Ferret on the head then i make my way to my usual spot under the tree. I falter when I see him lying under the shade of my tree. Joy arises before anger freezes over my heart. His eyes are closed and his earplugs are in but he seems to know I'm standing just a few feet away.

"You going to say hello or not?" His voice is low which makes his comment sound like a warning. Then his eyes flicker towards mine and our gaze meets his eyes shine with a mischief only he can muster. I must force myself not to smile as I remind myself he made his choice.

"Why should I?" I return crossing my arms and tapping my foot as I await his annoyed response. He snorts a laugh.

"Still as serious as ever aren't we Kris?" His voice is full of humor and joy this only makes me angrier.

"So Ethan where's Lyra?" I say a little too accusingly.

"My aren't we testy, get up on the wrong side of the bed today?" He asks pulling out his ear buds and standing up. He only grew an inch since the last time I had seen him but that put him three inches taller than me.

"Sorry but you and your girlfriend tend to bring out this side in me." I say staring into his pale gray beautiful eyes... wait I mean pale gray merciless eyes yes that's better.

"Girlfriend?" A look of pure disgust crosses his face I almost fall for it but then I remember how smoothly Ethan can lie.

"Lyra's not my girlfriend and if it's anyone who should know about relationships its you." he says his eyes now display an emotion I have never seen before in him hurt.

"Me!" I holler too loudly i see the poor Pidgeys flying away fearful of the loud noise I just made.

"Me?" I demand again quieter this time.

"Yes you I see you with him all the time!" He says not bothering to hide his frustration. This makes me excited that he trusts me enough to convey his true feelings, yet wary for fear that he may be lying.

"He who? I don't know what you're talking about!" I say tired of the game of cat and mouse.

"Silver, you're always hanging around that weirdo." He says his eyes peering into mine.

"He is not a weirdo!" I snap furious that he would stoop so low to make fun of my friend.

"You see! Admit it you like him!" He says pointing an accusing finger in my direction.

"Yeah I like him as a friend, and the only reason I hang out with him all the time is because I thought you and Lyra were dating." I pause to take a breath then continue my rant. "And if you were dating there's no way I could hang around you two because …" I stop when I realize what I've just said and realize Ethan's eyes widened a fraction.

"Don't stop now it was just getting good." He says with a cocky smirk and the flip of his hair.

"ETHAN! That kind of behavior really gets under my skin! I was saying..." I begin to slow down as I prep myself for the confession "I, I, I li..." Ethan interrupts my speech with a kiss. The kiss is deep and passionate warmth radiates from his lips and he smells of the forest and cherries. And for once everything is right in my life.
