Times Are Changing
"It's a new day"
Ponyboy Curtis was seeing things.
He was not crazy, nor did he need medication of any sort, nor did he need restraints. He was simply going insane.
Goddamnit, he was that guy.
That guy who couldn't keep up, that guy who stared at the music blaring from the radio in confusion. 'They call this music?' the guys thinks, 'more like noise to me'.
I see the bad moon arising
"Hey, Soda?" Ponyboy ask, sitting down on the sofa as his older brother slirps a mouthful of beer.
"Hmm?"
"You feelin' old lately?"
Soda looks up at his brother--only eighteen, off to college in just a few months--and quirks his eyebrow, "Uh, no. Why?"
I see trouble on the way
"Just...who the hell are these guys?" He waves his arm at the radio that holds it's mantle beside the television, blaring this new age lyrical atrocities that some may mistake for music.
Steve, leaning against the doorframe with a beer bottle hanging from his lips, adds, "Heard some girls talkin' bout it at the DX. Creedence...something. Suck ass, if you ask me."
I see earthquakes and lightnin
"Eh, no one did," Soda groaned, tossing a throw pillow towards him. He turned back to Pony, "Don't worry about it, kid. Won't last long."
Pony leaned into the sofa, feeling abysmal hopelessness, "I'm gonna be that guy at the gas station talking about the good ol' days."
"Hey," Steve barks, pointing a finger at the younger boy, "that's my job. You get college, I get gas station."
Soda snorted, his stomach shaking with laughter, "Dream big, buddy."
The radio blares with this music, and Pony can feel the next generation rushing at him faster then he's prepared for. He's been seeing bell-bottoms. He's been seeing mutton caps. New words like 'disco' are popping up in every direction.
I see bad times today
He groans, getting up and turning off the radio.
"Here to Elvis," he whispered to himself, "who was once King of rock n' roll, and won't be King again."
Author's Note: Song: Bad Moon Rising by Creedence Clearwater Revival. Feeling kind of hippie-ish, and I just read the Legend of King Arthur, hence the last line. It's ten, I haven't even touched my homework, and I'm going no where in life.
