She had told him her dream. She had put all her faith in him. For seven long years, while his body was sealed, she had waited. She had hidden herself from him, even though she had been so close and had helped him all the time. And when she had finally revealed herself to him and so adorably smiled, pouring her heart to him… she was once again taken away.
And now, here she was, right in front of him, safe and sound, enemy put to rest. But she was still far away, she was seven years in the past, where they belonged. So his question was… was it worth it? Was it worth it to go back to that place? Would they still meet? Would his heart beat the same way?
"Princess…", he said weakly. She only shook her head. "Please, don't.", she pleaded and he couldn't help but obey. She lifted her head and looked him right in the eyes. The frown on his forehead spoke what was still unsaid between them. And so she smiled.
Taking a single breath, she locked the blue ocarina between her lips and let the air flow. A beautiful tune filled the air, slow, sad, and full of hope. He broke their eye contact to notice the glow around him. Once again there was a wall between them. And he could only hope that at the place he was now going that wall didn't exist. That it didn't need to exist. He closed his eyes and prayed, never seeing the tears she could no longer hold.
When he opened his eyes again, the air was purer, the sun was shinier and his body was lighter. His traveler companion could only shout with glee, but he paid no attention. It was there. He hoped and it was there. That fuzzy, warm, magnificent feeling that filled his heart and made him run faster than his legs could handle. And he ran, to her, to that place, when they first met. To the place where she had told him her dream.
He already knew how to get to her. His body moved as it was controlled by someone else. Dodging the guards, dodging the obstacles. Turning the last corner, he caught a glimpse of her shiny hair, he had forgotten how short it actually was. He had forgotten how her gloves wrinkled, slightly too big for her small hands. He had forgotten her aura, her smell, her glow. And suddenly, she turned, startled for his presence, and he saw the eyes that he remembered. And suddenly, he knew. He knew the answer to his own question.
Yes, it was worth it. It was worth it spending the time they didn't get to spend. So that he could forever remember every single detail. So that she didn't have to tell him her dream. From now on, they would dream together.
