It was the night of the Yule ball and he was alone in the shadows watching the couples dance and laugh having fun he choose to look at his shoes until a figure blocked the tiny bit of light left

"Hi... I don't usually do this but would you like to dance?"

"Uh I don't really dance sorry" he said apologetically "but I'm sure he would want too" he said pointing to a boy sitting by himself he was popular not unlike him.

"Oh...ok, But I didn't want to dance with him, I wanted to dance with you" She fakes a smile, and walks off. Rejection obvious on all of her features.

He looked down a horrible feeling in his stomach but he didn't want to risk it he was in a fight with the most popular boy in the school and he would be killed if he walked onto the dance floor. She went to talk to her friends, and one of the boys began to dance with her. She was laughing, but kept looking over at him. He got up quietly his converse squeaking as he walked towards the door his head down. She glanced over at his corner and saw that he was leaving, she excused herself, and followed him outside. He walked to the roof and sat on the edge his feet hanging over the side he lit a cigarette even though he told himself he'd quit. He blew smoke into the air watching the swirls disappear

"You know those are bad for you right?"

He jumped at the voice his heart beating a little too fast "so?" he asked blowing more smoke into the air

She sat down next to him, and looked out at the moon, "So, it would be an awful thing to lose you"

He stayed quiet confused he didn't even know her yet she would be sad if he died "first time someone's ever said that" he said sadly his voice distant his eyes staring into nothingness.

"Oh, I know how you feel. You're cute did you know that?"

"First time someone's said that too"

"They can't look past the fact that I'm not "normal"

"Do you ever try to meet new people?"

"Course I try but they don't want to know the "emo" kid" he said his voice still distant.

"You should sit with me sometime, my friends are fine with anyone."

He shrugged he'd never been expected and was always alone he was used to it by now.

"Well I'm not going to force you, but if you want a friend or two, come sit with me ok?"

"Ok" he said standing up "goodnight" he said walking away.

She sighed, she had a crush on him, but no matter what he wouldn't open up to her. "Maybe I should just give up"

The next day...

It was the weekend struggling to get out of bed he got dressed and headed down for breakfast his hands in his pockets and his head down his normal walk.

Ocean was already sitting at her table laughing with her boyfriend and friends.

He walked in quietly and looked to his table he saw Ocean and her friends deciding not to disturb them he sat by himself on the end of the table not eating just poking his food.

Ocean looked to see him sitting there, and decided to leave him alone, if he wanted to talk he could come to her.

He just stared at his food not hungry he got up walking out slowly.

"isn't that your new friend "one of her friends said nudging her.

"I don't know, I asked if he wanted to sit here but he's not so... what do I do?"

"Your friends with that loser?" her boyfriend asked moving closer to her

"Yes, so leave him the alone, or I'll tell everyone what you did at that party last week."

"Someone's moody" he said backing away.

"What can I say pms" she said trying to lighten the mood, the group erupted in laughter.

He laughed along with them watching. Jessie walked alone along the corridors thinking about what to do there was no one around but he heard footsteps coming in his direction.
