Chapter One:
When Time Stands Still
A swirling mist lifted as the bright red sun rose above the horizon, exposing a bone-chilling sight. Blood. There was blood everywhere; on the ground the crimson liquid pooled and reflected the sky, twisting and mocking the sunrise.
On the crest of a hill, not too far away from the sight of the bloodshed, a lone figure stood, as if he was waiting for something. A moment later, a piercing scream rent the silence, and the figure left, reassured. Without a sound or a backward glance, he slipped off, into the darkness of the forest beyond.
In the village of Konohagakure no Sato, a woman stopped in her tracks. Her eyes widened, and her pulse quickened. Her gaze lingered for a second longer, and then she turned and screamed, screamed as she never had before, running pell-mell through the village, trying desperately to rid herself of the horror that had consumed her at the sight.
Within five minutes, the adult population of the village in its entirety had assembled outside the Uchiha compound. They stood, chattering ceaselessly. They were making so much noise. No one noticed when a finger twitched, and a small hand flexed against the ground experimentally. Uchiha Sasuke opened his eyes, only to immediately regret it. A second scream pierced the morning as he clamped his hands over his ears, curled in a fetal position. The crowd fell silent.
"He's alive!" one voice shouted, and the rest joined, one by one until Sasuke couldn't take it anymore. He blacked out.
Author's Note: Sorry it's so short. It's an introductory chapter, after all. As they all say, read and review! Tell me what you think, whether it be good or bad. It makes my day, it really does!
