Sylvia (Greypaw) sighed, glancing from the chalk board to her desk. Math is boring, she thought, glaring at the chalk board before blowing a stray strand of hair out of her face. Realizing she was staring at the chalk board like it was a human, she glanced around the room to distract herself, her own thoughts drowning out the teacher's robotic, monotone voice.

She saw her friend Charlotte (Blackpaw), who was running her fingers through her long, black hair and glancing nervously from her paper to the chalk board and back continuously, as if the problem on the board would disappear at ay second.

Charlotte was a new student at school and very shy. Sylvia had been her first friend at school. At least that's what Sylvia assumed, mainly because that's what she had been told by Charlotte herself. Sylvia hoped her new friend would get over her shyness quickly, having noticed that Charlie (Crowpaw) seemed to like her.

Sylvia glanced across the room at Charlie, who was jotting down notes on loose-leaf notebook paper. Almost all the girls had their eyes on him. Sylvia had to admit, he was pretty likeable. Exactly the opposite of his brother, Scorch (Scorchpaw). Sylvie couldn't blame him, though. Who gave their kid a name like that? She always assumed that was the reason why he hated almost everyone and everything. He wasn't in class today because of detention for beating up some kid. At least it wasn't me, Sylvie thought, remembering the time it had been.

She had been in the hallway, trying and failing to get her locker combination correct, when suddenly, a fight had broken out between two boys. She had turned to see Scorch fighting with a boy in her grade named Chester (Dustpaw). Being ever the anti-bullying follower, Sylvia had tried to interfere, only to have Scorch turn on her instead. If it hadn't been for Chester, Sylvie probably would've ended up with a black eye or worse. After that, she and Chester became friends.

Sylvie glanced at the clock. In about thirty second, she would be having lunch at her table with her friends and Chester, now her boyfriend. Quickly, she shoved all loose papers into her overstuffed binder and turned off her calculator. Stupid binder, she thought as she lifted it...all what-appeared-to-be fifty pounds of it.

The bell rang and she flinched, then sped out of the room and to her locker. She quickly unlocked it and traded her binder for her little, blue lunch card.

At lunch, Sylvie merely stared in disgust at the food, discolored mac 'n cheese with a terrible, unappetizing taste, and half a bread slice that had fallen into her salad. Eeeeeeew, she stuck her tongue out, poking the brownish/orange sludge with her spoon fork thing that everyone called a spork. Next to her, Jenna (Applepaw) dropped some applesauce into her salad. "Jenna..." Sylvie groaned.

"What?" Jenna shrugged innocently. "You weren't eating it." Sylvia merely rolled her eyes and continued poking at the food with her fork...I mean Spork. On the other side of Sylvie, Sky (Clearpaw) smiled, holding Luke's (Sunpaw) hand. The two of them had been together since before Sylvie had moved to the school district. Jenna suddenly elbowed Sylvie, who jumped in response.

"Hey!" she yelped. Jenna rolled her eyes and glanced at something behind Sylvia's head. She turned around and saw Nathan (Rabbitspirit) waving sheepishly at her. The kid was obsessed with her, even though it was obvious to everyone that she was dating Chester. Sylvie flinched and turned away.
