Honor the Dead
Tugger peered into the murky pond water below him and drew in a breath, before hurdling himself into the water. His last thoughts were of his dead mate and his small, helpless kitten he had left in the junkyard, before there was silence.
**Six years later.**
Tombero stepped out of his small box. He glanced around the quiet yard and sighed. The sun was peeking over the horizon, the flowers in the small garden were blooming, everything was perfect. Too bad that his father had missed it, too bad his father would never again witness the morning.
Jaskon, Tombero's father, had died just the night before in a Macavity scare. he had died of a heart attack, from the scare. (There hadn't been a scare in ten years, no one had suspected it would happen anytime soon.)
Tombero rounded another box to get to the main square, when he heard voices.
"What are we going to do about the number, though? Tugg's been dead for years and Jaskon said that he would do the number."
"We should ask Tombero to do it. He would have taken n the honor soon enough."
Tombero blinked. WHo was 'Tugg' and what did he do that Tombero was the cat to take over for him."
"Tombero looks just like him too. When I first saw him I thought he was Tugger!"
Tombero started. So he wasn't the only cat who lived with this strange vest mane?
"Tombero would never do it! He never met Tugger! He wouldn't want to anyway. If he knew..."
"Jaskon knew! He decided to do it anyway! Tombero will find out someday!"
Tombero at tis time walked away. What was it he was supposed to know?
