No one knew about her. No wizard or witch knew of her existence. She never received the letter from Hogwarts that every witch and wizard got when they reached the age of eleven. She also knew the reason why she never got it.
She grew up with her foster family. She had two foster siblings, Pamela and Ivan. Ivan was her age and Pamela was two years younger. She had been assigned to this Muggle family by a lady in a robe, who was a non-magical witch, a Squib. She visited the family on occasion and had been the one to introduce her to the world of magic and told her about her family lineage.
She thought the letter would never come. She was wrong. Two weeks before summer ended, she received a letter sent by a tan coloured owl. She was thirteen then.
She opened the letter. It read:
Ms. Grayson,
You have been accepted into our school, the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Along with this notice is a book list and items you will need for the school year.

The letter also included a consent form to visit a place called 'Hogsmeade'. She rushed to show the letter to Harriet, her foster mother.
"This is wonderful!" Harriet said, "Look, Aidan!" she said, showing the letters to her husband, waving them about enthusiastically. "We need to give Maveryck a call, to let her know that Riley's been admitted!" Maveryck was the Squib woman that took Riley to the Graysons.
The goodbyes between Riley and her family were short, but sweet and tearful. They had been close, and they had not expected to see the day when Riley would be packed off to Hogwarts. They had been reluctant to let her go, but realised that magic was her calling and they needed to do what was best for her.
Maveryck came and took Riley toe Gringotts Bank, run by a bunch of puny things called goblins. There had been an account set up in Riley's name years ago, to which both Riley's parents and Maveryck had contributed to. Riley left with a small leather pouch of Galleons, Sickles and Knuts, the currency of the wizarding world.
They went to get wands, next. Riley decided against pets, as she was never too fond of cats, newts or toads. After getting her schoolbooks, Maveryck took her to Knockturn Alley, where she picked out a few books on the Dark Arts (under Maveryck's advice).
Maveryck took Riley to King's Cross Station and showed her the way to platform 9 ¾. When they got near the train, Riley caught sight of a man with a lightning scar. Riley may not have grown up in the wizarding world, but Maveryck had told her enough for her to know that this was Harry Potter.
Maveryck told her the names of his children and the children with them. The oldest was James Potter. Then there was Albus Potter and Rose Weasley, who would be in the same year as her. Lily Potter and Hugo Weasley were in their first year. Maveryck told her to be wary of them, as well as of their parents, as they had been the one to destroy her grandfather when he had become the headmaster of Hogwarts.
Maveryck had also told her that she was not to speak of this, for fear of complicating her life at Hogwarts. Maveryck had told her that an enchantment the trio had cast caused a spell to be placed upon the magical community, causing them to believe that Voldemort was a villain.
Riley entered the Hogwarts Express and inadvertently ended up sharing a carriage with the Potter and Weasley kids. "Hi. I'm Riley Grayson." James, being the mature and adult one, introduced everyone else. The kids were instantly acquainted.
"If it's your first year here, how come you're going to be in third year?" asked Hugo somewhat innocently.
"There was a complication with the mailing system, I guess," Riley lied. "They're going to give me a test to see whether I should be in first or third year before deciding which year I'm actually going to be in. But I learnt almost everything I need to know from my mentor, so I guess that it shouldn't be a problem."
Just then a pale looking boy stopped at their carriage. He was flanked by four muscular boys whom he referred to as Doyle, Rolan, Milan and Lance. Behind him were four more substantial looking boys whom he referred to as Doyle, Rolan, Milan and Lance. "Well if it isn't the Potter brats and the scum birthed by the Mudblood."
"Shut up, Malfoy," Albus snapped, trying to keep his cool. James motioned for him to stay calm and possibly not mortally injure Malfoy. Malfoy sneered and left the carriage when he did not get the response that he desired.
"Who was that?" Riley asked.
"That was Scorpius Malfoy," James said. "He thinks he's so great because his dad was a jerk Death Eater."
