How Life Works
Peter didn't trust him. Okay, so technically Neal did have all of the 'treasure' from the U-boat but that wasn't the point.
He had told the FBI agent that he had nothing to do with the building going up in flames. Neal honestly said he hadn't stolen anything. And what does Peter Burke force him to do? Take a lie detector test.
Oh, yeah, Peter's just oozing trust.
They were partners for goodness sake! Their very lives depended on a little trust.
But...Neal was a con-man, not an agent. Peter was an agent, not a con-man. They could never fully trust each other-that was just how things worked in the world. Neal had been convicted of forgery and had 'allegedly' committed other crimes, though he and Peter both knew Neal did the majority of those crimes, and Peter had worked his way up from the bottom at the Bureau.
They could never be on the same side, not all the time anyway. Sure, Neal was a consultant but a lot of the FBI agents still treated him as a criminal.
That was just how life worked, though.
Saw the season 3 premiere. It rocked socks. I missed the last minute or so of it, though, so that's disappointing. Anyway, this takes place before Neal knows Mozzie was the one who did the heist. Reviews are much appreciated.
