Goodbye for Now

I look at you,
You stare back at me,
With your bright blue eyes shining
In the darkness of the night,
With confusion and wonder.
"What's wrong?"
You ask me as all I can do
Is stare into those
Deep pools of blue
That are your beautiful eyes.
Saying nothing, I bring you
Into a warm embrace
And you then understand
That I must
Leave you now.
"You're leaving, right?"
And I pull back to see
That your sight
Has become blinded
With tears.
Nodding, I cannot bring myself
To say anything except,
"I will never forget you,
And I hope that you,
Will not forget me."
As I start to walk away,
I see your tears,
Running down your cheeks,
Like a stream of crystal
Falling to your feet.
I feel the tears rise
To my own violet eyes.
"Please do not cry.
For even though I'm saying goodbye,
We will meet each other again."
I turn my back and walk
Into the undying darkness,
As I hear your sobs
That were coming from eyes
That were once filled with joy.
I keep walking,
And I look into the stars
In the midnight sky.
"We will meet again."
I whisper to myself
"And then
When we do,
I will never leave your side
For the rest
Of all eternity."
