A man was walking down the street when a phone started ringing. The man took off his right shoe, held it up to his face, and said, "Hello, this is Maxwell Smart, CONTROL Agent 86." A voice started coming from the man's shoe. "Max," said the voice, "this is the Chief. I just got news that KAOS has built a time machine." "Well, that's no surprise there, Chief," said Max. "CONTROL's time machine was built 26 days ago. Of course KAOS would take notice." "They haven't," replied the Chief. "They just had the same idea we had. You and Agent 99 are going to have to meet me here at Headquarters in an hour and 39 minutes." "Okay, then," said Max. After a brief pause, he added, "What for?" "KAOS plans to use their time machine to go to the future," explained the Chief. "Where exactly in the future?" asked Max. "Well," said the Chief, "we think they're going to the year 802,701." "Ah," said Max. "Well, Chief, I only have one question now," he added. "How do you know all of this?" "Agent 26 told me," explained the Chief. "Ah," said Max for the second time, after which he put his shoe back on his foot.
Of course CONTROL's time machine had been built 26 days before this happened. 26 is still one of my favorite numbers. 99 is as well, thanks to Get Smart. Oh, and did you notice that Max and 99 are to meet at CONTROL headquarters in an hour and 39 minutes, in other words, 99 minutes?
