A/N: This is my first fanfiction so DO NOT be kind. This one's for Bina and Yuri and all great Neji-Tenten writers! (like goldberry) Bina (bluegirl19) is the best beta reader/sister/critic ever and she is not making me say this! (coughyescough)
Disclaimer: I do not own Naruto, but I do own this box of really delicious cookies! Yum……..
Ask Shirley
Chapter One- How Did I Get Stuck With This Job?
Tsunade called me to her office. That might not seem so weird but I'm just an average kunoichi- I don't even have a surname. After knocking politely, I walked in, and sat down in a chair directly across from the Godaime, the woman who is my idol.
"Tenten," she said, smiling slightly, "I know you've heard of the new ninja newspaper. I was looking for a 'Shirley' in the Ask Shirley section of this newspaper and after looking through some work you did at the Academy, (coughIrukadiditcough) I decided that you'd be perfect for the job. Before you make up your mind, consider that you would be paid extra." The thought of being paid extra was just a really good bonus.
"Yes," I agreed, instantly. Helping the woman that had inspired me for so long seemed like a dream come true. After telling me how much she planned on paying me, (which helped even more) and instructing me on when I would receive my first requests for advice (which turned out to be tonight), I left the Hokage Tower and returned to my sparring with Neji.
After a painful bit of sparring, I limped to my empty apartment. That wasn't so hard- it was a daily routine to be beaten up by my stoic team mate. The crazy things people do for love. Letters had already arrived, so I looked at the first one.
Dear Shirley,
I have a little eating problem. With the support of team mates and family, I ignored my size, but now I'm having trouble finding a girlfriend. People are unable to look past my weight, and I really need help.
With desperation,
Gentle Giant
After about 3 minutes of laughter, a cheesy romantic movie, the reading of a book called To Kill a Mockingbird, the recording of Lee singing Linkin Park, and 5 jelly donuts later, Tenten was ready to write her response.
Dear Gentle Giant,
I see you are in a predicament. I think if eating is important for you, don't worry about getting a girlfriend. Some day, you will meet a girl who looks past your weight, and sees you for who you really are. This won't be easy, but keep trying, and remember no one is perfect. Also, snack healthier to live longer!
Sincerely,
Shirley
Feeling satisfied, Tenten put her writing in an envelope, and went to Tsunade for the second time in one day. When she got to the tower, the guards let her straight to the room known as the Hokage's office. When in, she sat in the same chair, and waited for the Hokage to speak. After a minute or two, she noticed that Tsunade wouldn't be responding any time soon- she was asleep. Tenten stirred the older woman gently, and she soon awoke from her slumber. The talented medic nin got up quickly, like it was something she did often, which it was.
"Tenten… so nice to see you again. If you'd be so kind to leave what you've written on my desk, I'll read it quickly." Tenten handed her paper to the powerful woman, who skimmed over it briefly. "Bet I know who that was," she mumbled, before speaking louder. "Good job! It'll be in the paper tomorrow. Now get some sleep, or at least let me."
The 17 year old girl left, and took Tsunade's advice by going to bed. She just prayed that Neji wasn't the paper reading kind of guy.
