1. Above the Clouds
Sometimes I imagine myself made new, living a simpler life. I hear the cry of the eagle from the distant mountain tops, and wonder if I had become a sailor rather than tending to this life, such as it is.
The Elder of this village spoke to me today after I had returned from the hunt. It had been a short one, and quiet too. Nature is amazing sometimes, when the animals are asleep in the fields, and the grass feels like it is shuffling down the hillside on a long march towards nowhere. The shadows of valleys creep in behind the eye, and even the clouds rolling by overhead seem to insist on anonymity, though they are the most capricious creature of all to ask for such a thing.
The Elder told me that he had a dream yesterday of a great fire in the hills, beyond the Three Mountains, near to where the ancient creatures lay. But he would not say any further, and I did not ask.
It is lonely in this village. I hope to see her soon, but she has been gone from me for so long, I dare not ask the Heavens to give her back. I desire her face everyday.
