Tony's jaw was clenched as he stormed out of the apartment building, not bothering to shut it behind him as he could already hear the rush of footsteps following. He didn't look back as he headed for the car, digging into his pocket for his keys and cursing as they dropped from his hand when he went to pull them out. He stopped, bending down to try and find them in the grass in the dark.

"Tony, come on! I'm sorry! I didn't mean to forget -"

Finally finding the keys, he stood up, cutting his partner off by pointing almost accusingly at him. "But you did, didn't you, Tim? So it doesn't matter if you meant to, the point is, you forgot, and I'm going home." He turned back, going over to the driver's side door and shoving the key into the slot. It was stuck and didn't want to turn. "Come on, you piece of crap!"

It was enough of a delay for McGee to run around the car, grabbing onto Tony's hand to stop him from futzing with the keys. He hadn't meant to piss him off so badly. "I said we can still go out to dinner, didn't I? I just forgot what day it was. I didn't realize it was the nineteenth already, okay?" Tony yanked his hand away, glaring in the other man's general direction, before going to try and turn the key again. It did so with ease this time and he tugged the door open with one hard pull. McGee stopped him from getting too far in by grabbing the door with his hand, looking at his friend with almost pleading eyes. "I got you a present and everything. You didn't give me a chance to grab it."

Tony paused, though the tightness in his jaw relaxed a little. "You did?" McGee nodded, almost looking relieved, watching as the senior field agent relaxed his grip on the car door. "What did you get me?"

"It's a surprise, you idiot."

Scrunching his mouth lightly, Tony finally sighed, and Tim had just enough time to pull his hand off the car door as it was pushed shut. He seemed to still be debating, but the sound of the car door locking and Tony shoving the keys back into his pocket made Tim smile in relief.

"You better be taking me to a really nice freaking dinner."

McGee rolled his eyes, heading for his apartment again. "Don't be such a baby."

"You've got a lot to make up to me, you birthday forgetter!"

"I didn't forget!"

"You totally forgot." Tony's tone was slightly more lighthearted now, though, rather than bitter, as he followed him back towards the door.

"I couldn't have gotten you a present if I forgot."

There was a pause of silence before Tony scoffed; "Oh, shut it, McLogic."
