The sunlight shone through the opened windows, filling the room with an encompassing warmth that only nature can instill. The smell of floating mist entered the enclosed space and proceeded to mix in with the cloyingly sweet scent of lavenders bloomed inside the vase placed on the bedside. Miwa felt dizzy and disoriented, what with all of these overpowering stimuli entering his olfactory filters, but he didn't voice it. Not when he had promised his friend he would guide him past this boss. Even if said deed took all night.
Kagutsuchi was an asshole to take down.
After watching Miwa frantically trying all sorts of buffs and debuffs and dispensed three of his demons' SP like they are the unwanted candy wrappers found in the closet that his mom threw in the trashbin, Kai was resting his head on the edge of the mattress, squinting his jade eyes at the screen. The boy was trying his best to stay awake by guiding his retinas on the blinding brightness of the TV screen and humming the battle music under his quiet breath (Miwa had been super careful at coming up with precautions to mess with the sound system and therefore, not risking a chance at waking up his parents. At his proposals, Kai had given him a look mixed with admiration and rebuke, but boys are boys, and the disappointment of not finishing the game before summer ends overrides the desire to obey rules and obligations.) Miwa would have found Kai's stubbornness charming, actually, if he wasn't also exhausted himself and was extremely busy with keeping Kai's horribly weak demons with their mediocre movesets alive before the mighty power of the game's supposed final boss.
After the umpteenth times Nyx used Soul Drain on that cursed disco ball and blasted it with a Bufudyne spell, the sprite of the so fearsome demon faded away into blobs of fragmented pixels, and Miwa threw the controller next to Kai's dozing head.
"No more of this."
But of course the brunet was already conked out.
Despite his stronger urges to kick Kai out of the bed and claim the warm mattress for himself (the goofball wouldn't really know what hit him anyways. When Kai sleeps, the world around him stops matter,) Miwa draped the blanket on his friend and dragged himself out of the balcony, eyes getting assaulted with sudden light. He wished he was a teeny bit meaner.
The sun has perched its head from various buildings near the vicinity, its healthy red glow envelops the world like a blanket itself. The sparrows were chirping their lively tunes, unaware that their songs were making Miwa develop a migraine.
First day of fifth grade started in one hour.
Miwa came back inside and watched the familiar ending cutscene with dry eyes, trying hard not to yawn with every passing second. He didn't want to get lured in by sleep. When the game asked if he wanted to save the progress, he pushed no.
Miwa smirked. Kai promised him that they would watch the ending together.

And yes, in case if it's not already obvious, the kids were playing Nocturne. Why Nocturne, especially? Because I have a strong love-hate relationship with that game and I need to express it somehow.
All reviews will be appreciated.
