I just wanted to do something sort of light and fluffy for the three of them. Because I just finished with reading volumes 9, 10 and 11. And I'd been playing with the idea for a while. So...yeah. Enjoy
Watanuki stood beneath the cherry blossom tree, waiting nervously. It was just like any day really. He always met Himawari and Doumeki there for lunch. But it wasn't a normal day. Not really. Today, Doumeki would be at archery practice. So Watanuki felt it was the perfect chance.
For what? Why for him to confess of course!
He was pacing, wondering just what Himawari's reaction would be. Whatever it was, she would be truely sweet about it. That was something true without any sort of doubt. Himawari was a very kind girl.
"Watanuki-Kun!" Himawari called as she approached, waving.
Watanuki swallowed nervously before he turned to her. Immeadiatly, his worry melted at the smile on Himawari's face.
"Himawari-Chan!" He said, smiling brightly at her.
She finaly came to a stop a few feet away. She tilted her head slightly to the left and smiled again. "You seem very happy today."
Watanuki scratched the back of his neck, his cheeks turning faintly reddening. "I really enjoy eating lunch with you."
"I enjoy eating lunch with you too." She replied. "And Doumeki-Kun as well."
Watanuki's smile only faltered for a second at hearing the archer's name. It was barely noticible.
Himawari sat down on the grass and Watanuki followed her lead. He sat, looking down at his bento for a while, his cheeks still pink. "Ah...Himawari-Chan..."
"Yes?" She said, looking up at him.
"I...I...Want to tell you...something..." He fiddled with his bento as he spoke, having trouble making eye contact with her.
"Is something wrong, Watanuki-Kun?" Himawari asked, concern filling her voice.
"Ah! No! Not at all! Everything is fine! Perfect in fact! It's nothing bad!" Watanuki exclaimed, waving his arms about a bit and shaking his head.
"Oh?"
He stopped his frantic denying and was finaly able to look at her. His cheeks grew warmer. The concern was still obvious in her eyes. He mentaly chastised himself for making her worry.
"I...I have something to tell you. But I promiss that nothing is wrong."
She smiled again, waiting patiently for him to speak.
"Himawari-Chan...I r...r...really..." He swallowed and forced himself to maintain eye contact. "I r-really l-like you!" He finaly said.
Himawari gave him another bright smile. "I really like you too, Watanuki-Kun!"
Watanuki's heart soared.
"You and Doumeki-Kun are wonderful friends."
His heart sank like a rock at the realization that Himawari had misunderstood him. He had to try again! Squeazing his eyes shut, he tried again.
"No...I mean...I...I really...I lo..."
"Oy."
He opened his eyes and cried out in alarm. Doumeki was sitting right in front of him, casually eating. Blinking, he realized it was HIS bento on Doumeki's lap.
"WHO SAID YOU COULD EAT MY LUNCH?! AND WHY ARE YOU HERE ANYWAY?! SHOULDN'T YOU BE AT PRACTICE?!"
"This is good."
"ARE YOU LISTENING TO ME, YOU IDIOT?!" Watanuki cried, grabbing Doumeki's shirt collar and shaking him. "THAT IS MY FOOD! I DIDN'T MAKE IT FOR YOU! YOU CAN'T JUST EAT SOMEONE'S LUNCH LIKE THAT!"
"Then where's mine?" Doumeki asked, unfazed.
"I DIDN'T MAKE YOU ANYTHING! I'M NOT YOUR SLAVE! MAKE YOUR OWN FOOD!"
"I can't cook."
"I DON'T CARE! YOU HAVE NO RIGHT! WHAT AM I SUPPOSED TO EAT?! ARE YOU EVEN LISTENING?!"
"I'm trying to enjoy my lunch."
"YOU MEAN MY LUNCH!"
Himawari smiled serenely at the two. Sure, she was curious as to what Watanuki had to say. But she was also very patient. And if he wasn't ready, she could wait.
