As morning dawned in the school that was known as Hogwarts, Professor Snape was watching as all the Slytherin kids were walking into the Great Hall. Emily Lea was the only year 1 that year. She didn't exactly fit in with the others in her house. She always sat near the door so she could slip out without making a scene. But regardless, no other Slytherin would acknowledge her existence.
Emily was eating a couple bites but merely poking at her food other than that. She knew breakfast would end soon, so she got up and left heading back to the common room. She had to get to her dorm and grab her books. She was fast and packed. As all the other kids were just arriving, she left for Potions. She arrived and sat down at her table quietly. "Instructions are on the board. Get to work," Snape dismissed. He knew Emily was the only Slytherin in the class and watched her. She was quiet and precise. She finished about 20 minutes before everyone else. Her potion was perfect and he could tell. He regardless did the test and she passed. "Well done Miss Lea," he praised. She nodded and as class ended, she walked to transfiguration to get to work. She noted it was the day the kids had to make the mouse into a snuffbox.
"Points will be awarded for ornate boxes and successful transformations. Points will be taken away for whiskers remaining on the box," Professor Lily Snape instructed. Lily had chosen Snape and Tobias Snape was their now 30 year old son. Lily, Severus and Harry were all on a potion that made them immortal. The school loved them. They all were good teachers. Harry had convinced Severus to give Remus and Sirius a second chance. They also were under the potion. As Emily returned her brain to the task at hand she reread the part about how she had to let her wand follow the mouse. She decided to start at the face to get the painful part over with. She saw her wand tip become blue, so she slowly let her wand go over the mouse. As she finished she saw her mouse had kept it's tail. As Lily walked around she sighed as she saw Emily's box. "10 points will be taken from Slytherin," she informed her. She nodded and walked to lunch where all the Slytherins were glaring at her. Severus noticed and waited for his wife to arrive.
"What happened in Transfiguration?" He had to know why the other Slytherins were acting even colder than normal to Emily.
"She lost 10 points. Emily tried but instead of it being the normal whiskers that remained on the box for failed attempts, the tail stayed. That's probably why Slytherin isn't too happy with her," Lily answered.
After lunch Emily had DADA and Professor Lupin knew that Emily might not be as lively but this would be the best chance to get her points back. She had the top spot. "Alright class. Today we will be actually casting a spell. I'm sure you're all aware that Headmaster Dumbledore is reviving the duelling club for everyone. One spell that the referee will undo since there will be a way for the coach of each dueller to track the points, is Fintite Incantatem. What spells would we need to undo to allow a duel to continue?"
"Immobulus or Petrificus Totalus," Emily mumbled. Remus with his good hearing heard her and looked at her.
"I heard something come out of your mouth. It was right, but you weren't as vocal as your normally are," he explained.
"Ful Body Bind Curse which is Petrificus Totalus or the spell that freezes objects in place, Immobulus. Two reasons we'd need to have the referee stop the spell," she answered.
"Correct. We will be working with Petrificus Totalus today. I'm sure you've been doing the required reading. So get started," he answered. Professor Snape was walking by the DADA room when Emily tried to talk to a Gryffindor and waited to see what happened. Remus was working privately with another student and as she seemed to be asking for a partner, the kid laughed and walked away. Emily's face showed her heartbreak. No kid wanted to partner with her. Emily's classes were with Gryffindors unless in Potions where she was with Ravenclaws.
"Emily if you don't perform the spell I can't grade you or give points. I'll be forced to take points," Remus informed. Severus couldn't let it happen when Emily was trying to get to practice the spell.
"I see you have an odd number of students Lupin. How about Miss Lea performs the spell on you and I stop the spell after?"
"Seems fair," he answered. Gryffindors scoffed and she smirked. Emily loved it. "Relax and doin't think about me being a Professor." She nodded at that and Remus noticed a concern as he was about to let Emily cast her spell. One of the gryffindors weren't holding their wand right. "Emily duck!"
Before Emily could get why she was told to duck, the spell flew off the wand and hit Emily. Her arms snapped to her side and her legs were stuck together. "That's 30 points from Gryffindor," Snape snapped.
"You aren't the Professor," one kid responded.
"That's another 10 points for disrespecting another professor. You're up to 40 total points lost. Care to add on?"
"We take larger amounts of points for foolishness. We saw you hold your wand in a way that you know isn't proper. Now as for Miss Lea. Finite Incantatem!" Emily moved rather quickly and before she could grab her things, she fled the classroom.
"Emily!" Remus was scared when she took off.
