Hello, everybody! This is another Cars story I wrote. It takes place after the third movie, and in it, Lightning goes on vacation with Sally, after she suggests it, and, as the tittle implies, they go back to Fireball Beach. It's a little short, but I hope you enjoy the story!
Lightning stared out at the ocean, and took a deep breath, inhaling the cool, refreshing breeze coming off from the water. As much as he loved the place, it was nice to get away from Radiator Springs every once in awhile. He was very glad Sally had suggested this trip. She had asked him where he wanted to go, and he had suggested Fireball Beach, knowing several legends had trained and raced here, including his former pit crew Chief, Doc, and he wanted to be able to spend more time there and explore the place a little more, since he hadn't gotten much of a chance to the last time he had been here, having been training with Cruz at the time. Sally had told him he had needed a vaction, after everything that had happened, and he was beginning to think she had been right. This trip had taken a load off of his mind, and he felt more relaxed, not as stiff as he had been.
"This is nice," he said, and turned to smile at her, kissing her on the fender. "I'm enjoying myself." He rested against his side and closed his eyes. "We just got to watch out for those cute little crabs."
Sally chuckled, knowing he was talking about Cruz and her affection for crabs. "You got that right," she said, nuzzling his side, and returned his kiss.
When Lightning had been training here with Cruz, she had been afraid to run over crabs because she had thought they were cute. The memory still made Lightning smile every time he thought about it, and this time was no exception. He felt a wide smile cross his fender.
"The beach ate me," Lightning said, laughing, quoting the very words Cruz had uttered when she had sunk into the sand during his training with her at the beach, hoping to get another smile and laugh from Sally, always heartened by the sound of her laughter.
He was rewarded seconds later when she snorted and let out a loud guffaw, which was so unlady-like and our of character for her, he was, at first, quite taken aback by the sound when he heard it come out of her mouth, but he also thought it was very infectious and somehow, strangely enduring, and it drew him to her even more.
"That Cruz," Sally said, shaking her hood, but smiled. "She's quite a character. I like her!"
"Yeah, I do, too," Lightning said, and closed his eyes, falling asleep to the sound of the waves lapping up on the edge of the beach and the seagulls crying overhead, with Sally by his side. He couldn't of thought of a better way to spend his summer vaction.
The End
