Lost
"Aqua...Ven..." came a whisper from a dark haired young man. He was on a what seemed reminiscent of a platform, the surrounded area only being dimly lit by the faint glow around his body. The inky blackness underneath him ceased to make him cringe long ago.
He awoke from his temporary slumber only to recognize the darkness surrounding him.
That's right. He was still locked away inside his own heart.
He wasn't entirely sure what had happened when his body gave way to a Nobody. His heart was somehow still frozen within the depths of his body, unable to find the light again. And his consciousness was stuck with it.
He still dreamt, though. He'd see his home, his friends, those close to him, those he had failed to protect. But, most prevalently, he'd see her. The young woman with the deep blue eyes and matching hair, her smile radiant enough to light a thousand worlds. She haunted his dreamworld every time his heart stilled to rest. He would only see a glimpse of her before she faded away. His own screaming would wake him, her name echoing in the darkness.
He was losing it. Unless he'd already lost it. His sanity could have easily disappeared with his heart.
There was no return, that he knew. His mistakes had left him to be a puppet of the old man. No matter how hard he tried to reach them, it wouldn't work.
Sometimes he felt an overwhelming yearning that he knew wasn't his own. He wasn't the only one trying to get back to the life they once had lived. Was this really their fate?
Before Xehanort had left him to dwell with his misery, he said one thing that has stuck with the young man throughout all these years.
"Hope plays a wicked game with the mind, doesn't it?"
It does. The hope that was burning in him has turned to ash. The hope of a bright future, of reuniting with his friends, of seeing her again. It was nearly all gone.
He knew he was a fool for not listening, not heeding the warnings that had been sent to him. Now, here he was, drowning in eternal darkness, trapped within the man that had caused all of this pain.
Was the love for them not enough? Did it truly not bind them together as he had been taught? Isn't the heart supposed to be strong enough to overcome the hardest of trials? Why wasn't light triumphing over darkness?
He moved from his position, standing like he hadn't done in a long time. He glared at the darkness all around him, cursing the name of the man who doomed him to live out his days like this, buried beneath his guilt and loneliness.
The only thing keeping him from completely sleeping inside himself was his friends. They needed him, and he needed them.
The name of a boy was vaguely heard from time to time, bringing distant memories of a little brown haired boy living on an island.
Would that be his way out?
"You, me, and Ven will be reunited. I can just feel it. Wait for me, Aqua. I will find you, I swear it!"
He yelled the words, allowing himself to hope once again for the light.
Aqua let a ghost of a smile grow on her face, her hand over her heart as she sat on the shore of the Realm of Darkness.
"I know you will, Terra..."
Sorry it's so short! I've been busy lately planning for my new stories. But here's a little something.
I nearly started screaming when I first heard the song "Lost" by Within Temptation. It sounded, to me, like Terra's predicament. So, naturally, I had to write a short little story based on it.
Please leave a review if you can!
