Chapter I – Birth of the New God

It has been a few years since Kira's killings. By then, crimes have skyrocketed since the so called God of Death appears to be missing. Rumor has it that Kira has been caught, and they have killed him. Pfft, if they think what Kira has been doing was wrong, how different where they from him? They should have just spared Kira and let him continue punishing criminals. If that were to happen, the world will continue to be a safer place for everyone.
As a kid, I was always bullied. Everyone would make fun of me, since I'm different from them. How do you put this in words, weird? Being the introvert I am, I made few friends. When Kira appeared, the bullying was put to a stop. Slowly, I came out of my shell and eventually made a lot of friends. I became more active in our school, and this year, I was elected as President of the Student Council. I owe Kira everything, and I want to repay him somehow, but what could I, Ray Satou, possibly do?
Last night, as I was walking home from school, I noticed something fell out of a tree. I approached it and picked it up. It was a black notebook with an engraved silver writing, "Death Note." I smirked and put it down by the tree. I walked away from it, but after a few steps, I went back and retrieved the notebook. It felt eerie; it's as if someone was telling me to get the notebook. I felt more stupid as I opened the notebook and read the content also written in a black notebook with silver writings. "The human whose name is written in this notebook will die" and other nonsense curse. Nevertheless, I kept it inside my bag thinking that there's nothing to lose for holding on to it. I quickened my pace and went home and entered my room. I then read the so-called "rules" of this notebook that I ignored a while ago.
How to Use:
The human whose name is written in this note shall die.
This note will not take effect unless the writer has the person's face in their mind when writing his/her name. Therefore, people sharing the same name will not be affected.
If the cause of death is written within the next 40 seconds of writing the person's name, it will happen.
If the cause of death is not specified, the person will simply die of a heart attack.
After writing the cause of death, details of the death should be written in the next 6 minutes and 40 seconds.
"Whoever made this notebook sure put in a lot of effort into this prank," I said to myself. I hid the notebook inside my drawer and turned on the T.V. to watch the news. Same old, same old. News about awful accidents, violent crimes, the declining economy seem to dominate the news nowadays. Then there's this live coverage of a hostage incident. Takeshi Keito, the name of the captor has 10 people as hostage. He in turn, wants his accomplice out of jail. This same strange force got my hands reaching for the notebook. There's nothing to lose for trying, I guess. I read the instructions again and then I wrote his name.
