{I'm a Taken}
"What in the Traveler's name is that?!" Taito looked aghast. His awoken green eyes flashed over her choice in armour.
Phoenix looked down at herself, then back up. "What?" She pretended ignorance.
"That," he shoved his hand at her cloak, and her new glowing arm gauntlets.
"Oh, this? Why, they're new - do you like them?" She outstretched her arms and gave him a look she knew would irritate him further.
They played the game of annoyance every day - it was what their relationship was built on. When it came to a fight however, they both trusted the other to let the petty arguments go and to guard one another's backs.
Ore came around the corner just as Taito looked like he was shifting colour in his anger. "A new cloak?" The Exo asked, stopping by her side.
"It's in bad taste!" Taito finally got out. Pointing at her accusingly. "That is a Taken cloak - the same bloody monsters who destroyed my Queen and obliterated my people."
Phoenix lost the smirk from her face and lowered her arms. "I did not mean to upset you, Tait."
He bared his teeth. "You should have thought about it, about how disrespectful you are being! But like always, you do not think of anyone bar yourself, do you?"
Phoenix took the hit with a clenched jaw. Ore stirred beside her. The Exo was a gentleman, the type to hold the door open for her and step in when he saw something was wrong. That did not mean he didn't respect her skills.
"Now, calm down Tait. I am sure she didn't mean-"
"No, do not stand up for her," Taito snapped back. "You are blinded by your obsession with her-"
Ore look taken aback and Phoenix stood in awkward silence as the Warlocks words filled the air. She had suspected the Exo liked her, now it had been confirmed - she could deal with those feelings later.
"Taito," her voice dropped to a series tone. "That's enough. I didn't wear this to insult you, or your people. I would wear it as a badge, one which says they are not untouchable and that we will bring every last one down."
He stared at her: those glowing green orbs in a grey skinned face. Dark hair fell from its usual kept place into his eyes.
"Can we move passed this?" She offered her hand. "That we can go on and do just that, take on these Taken bastards and anyone else who gets in our way?"
The awoken did not seem to want to forgive her. He was a stubborn man, loyal to his people - it made him who he was, and Phoenix wouldn't change that. Truth be told, she had not worn it to upset him, hadn't though it would so badly. She had expected a comment on it, yes, as he always had a snide remark ready.
He grasped her hand, Ore watching the two of them. "Fine," the Warlock relented. "You better keep your word."
"With us three together, that promise is as good as solid."
...
Well, this turned darker than expected. It was initially supposed to be another funny piece but these things just write themselves.
It is kind of weird wearing the taken stuff. Looks freaky.
