Summer Days.

'We were so young then... but looking back on it now, our summer days is what I remember the most.'

1.

Dawn's sunlight was spilling through the window, lighting up the swaying oceans water like a billion sparklers, reflecting it of the moving waves and slow sloping tide. There was a warm gentle breeze that blew through the bedrooms open window, bringing in the smell of fresh ocean water paired with a scent of tropical climate. A few colorful birds sat atop a slowly swaying palm tree, chirping and dancing about. Another breeze carried through the room, this time gently stirring awake someone who was sleeping in the soft, pillowy bed. She watched the breeze roll in, the smell of salt being carried on the air and the sound of waves crashing on the shore. The blonde pushed a hand full of hair behind her ear after gently removing the large, strong arm that had been wrapped around her the entire night. Slowly sitting up right, she approached the window- it's transparent floor length white curtains were dancing playfully in the air- inviting her in as another breeze passed through. In nothing but a white unbuttoned button down t-shirt and a black lace pair of underwear. The wind pushed the open shirt even farther back to the dangerous point of her being completely topless, but she didn't care. The shirt covered enough to hide the most delicate part, and even if it didn't, no one was here to see it. Embracing her freedom, she let her shirt slide down a little farther as she basked in the sunlight that was pouring down on her as the sun continued to rise past the oceans horizon. The sky was a pale blue, but was mixed with oranges, yellows, and light pinks of every color like a breath taking abstract painting. Running her slender, perfectly manicured fingers down the side of her face, she took a deep breath and soaked it all in. This was her life now, in this moment. Placing her hand delicately across her heart, she made a prayer to thank the lord for blessing her with such perfection- such fantasy that was her actual reality. Parting her soft, full, pink lips, she drank in the smell of exotic tropical fruit. The shuffling noises behind her told her that he was awake, but she couldn't break her gaze. It was fixed on the rhythmic waves, the white sand that sparkled like jewels and the rainbow array of flowers that were blooming on bushes that lined the their back deck. Raising her gently closed fist to her mouth, she felt a new warmth wrap around her, hotter than a thousand suns. Pressing his lips to the side of her neck, he covered her in kisses, his face mostly covered by the long strands of his dark black hair. His breath on her skin and his kissed made her heart race and her body ache. Resting his head on her shoulder, he too looked out to the view.

"Beautiful." He husked, his voice still gravely from just now waking up. It sent chills down her spine.

"Isn't it just perfection?" She rested her hand on the side of his face as they looked out together.

"Yeah." He kissed her on the cheek. "You are."

Smiling, she tilted her head back, indulging in the fantasy that was him. His warm hands all over her, the towel that was wrapped around his waist- the only thing that covered him began to slide off.

"Save it." She said, kissing him on the forehead. "You slept in late, and you'll be a grump if you miss your morning coffee."

"Mhm." He muttered with a yawn, walking over to the closet as he put his hair up into a pony tail with his forest green hair tie. "I worked up an appetite last night, I'm starved."

Temari merely smiled and shook her head as she put on her bra, turning around to see that he was already dressed and ready to go.

"It's so easy for you." She complained, looking at her suitcase. "What should I wear?"

"Nothing." Shikamaru said with a smile.

"Not helping." Temari stuck her tongue out at him.

Pulling out a lavender tank top and stone washed light denim shorts, she quickly began to put her hair up.

"Leave it down." Shikamaru had snuck his way back over to her, wrapping his arms around her. "Please?"

Temari wanted to disagree, and argue that it was getting too long, but she didn't have the desire to anymore. Shikamaru loved the way she looked when her hair was down, and after taking her to a place like this, Temari didn't plan on arguing with him for a single second.

Pulling her feet through her black flip flops, she kissed him quickly on the cheek.

"Fine, I will." Temari said, giggling as he reined her in, hugging her tightly.

"I love you, I love you, I love you, I love you." Shikamaru kissed her passionately. "Did I tell you that I loved you yet today? Because I do."

Temari rested her nose against his. "I think you might have said it once before." Standing on her toes, she kissed his forehead. "It just so happens that I love you too."

"Hmm." Shikamaru cuddled her affectionally. "You know what else I love? Pancakes."

"Alright, alright." Temari took him by the hand, leading him to the door. "Let's go then."

After breakfast it was a long walk on the beach, a lot of PDA, and fluttery conversation that kept them both laughing. They talked about this little private property, like a small slice of paradise along the coast. They talked about how crazy it was that Shikaku managed to snap up this amazing summer home as their own personal get away. They talked and laughed about how hard Shikamaru had to plead with his father to convince him to give him the summer home for a month, just the two of them. But mostly, they talked about how crazy everything was, leading up to this point in time. Temari laughed about the fact that if five years ago someone had walked up to her and told her that she'd be dating that lazy, sexist boy she fought in the Chunin exams, she would have had them committed to an insane asylum. Shikamaru laughed too, saying that he would have done the same if someone told him he would be dating the Kazekages bossy and intimidating older sister. With a clink of their glasses that held some fruity drink, laying on the beach in two body length chairs, Shikamaru looked over to her and smiled, the sun making him glow.

"How'd I get so lucky?" He asked, a smirk on his face.

"I was about to say the same thing." Temari rested a hand on his.

Shikamaru looked down at her hand, and didn't look up, his expression changing.

He was thinking, and also nervous. Just a few moment before he had looked calm and content, Temari wondered what was on his mind.

"What are you thinking about?" Temari knew his expressions well.

"I'm thinking about you." Shikamaru said quietly, his voice nearly downed out by the ocean. "I'm thinking about how much I love you. How much I need you in my life. How you're the only woman for me. You're my air, you give me life. I couldn't live without you- and I'd be too scared to try. I can't ever loose you, you know that right?"

Temari used her other hand to pull her sunglasses off her face, tilting her head.

"What's all this all of a sudden?" Temari tightened her grip on his hand. "Are you okay?"

"I'm better than okay." Shikamaru stood up suddenly, and Temari stood up with him. Wrapping his arms around her he whispered into her ear. "You're all I ever need. You're all I ever wanted and more. I don't care if it's cheesy, you complete me."

"Shikamaru." Temari didn't understand what came over him, seemingly out of the blue. She didn't know why, but his kind words made her feel like crying. "What's going on?"

Nose to nose, Shikamaru murmured softly to her. "Come on, Temari." Slowly he dropped down to one knee, and Temari's world spun into slow motion as he reached into the pocket of his shorts. "Make me the happiest man in the world."

Instantly Temari's breath caught in her throat, tears were quickly on the rise. Shaking like the world around beneath her was crumbling, all she could do was look down at him as he took out a small wooden red box. Still holding her hand, he brought it to his lips and kissed her ring finger tenderly. Using his thumb, he pushed the lid of the box open, revealing a ring. It was white gold surrounding the jewel, but it wasn't a diamond. It was something that was a thousand times better. Shikamaru had once mentioned to her that there was a cave on his family's property back home that produced a special type of jewel once every few years. They were only harvested and used by the Naara clan, and they were used for one thing and one thing only- to make one of a kind wedding rings. It was more beautiful and more rare, more precious than the biggest diamond in the world. Temari could tell just by the look of it that he had crafted it himself, it must have taken him months. The detail of the framing, the engraving on the bottom, it was beyond professional. It was beyond perfect.

This was the only man she had ever let her guard down completely for. This was the only man she ever truly loved. This was the only man in the world who she would ever let see her cry. And she cried, and cried, and cried. To the point where she fell to her knee's too, just as he had finished slipping the ring onto her finger.

Shikamaru tried to push the hair he loved to see down so much behind her ears, but Temari covered her face with her hands as she cried. As Temari tried to pull herself together, the way his breathing quicken like he too was on the verge of tears made it all the more harder to stop weeping.

"Is this a yes?" Shikamaru voice was breaking more with every word.

Nodding vigorously, Temari want to kick herself for not being able to stop crying like a child. "Of course! Yes I'll marry you, you lazy idiot!" throwing herself into his arms, he held her tightly, she never wanted him to let her go.

Burring his head into her neck, he let out a long sigh, hot tear drops spilling from his eyes.

"What's the big idea, making me cry like this?" Temari covered her eyes with her hand.

"I love you." Shikamaru said, still breathless with shaky hands. "I love you, I love you, I love you."

Temari smiled, happy tears still pooling in the corners of her teal eyes that melted Shikamaru to his core.

"I love you." Temari still felt dizzy from her still rapidly beating heart. "You make me so happy."

Shikamaru kissed her for what seemed like hours, but even still, Temari wanted him to do it again after the kiss broke.

The rest of the day was something like a blur, they clumsily ate another meal together, but Temari could hardly eat- pausing every few seconds when her ring caught the light. She would put down her fork and just stare at it until Shikamaru would snap her out of it, usually by leaning across the table and kissing her. Shikamaru could hardly eat either, stopping every time Temari did. Only while she was looking at the ring, he was looking at her. Growing up, marriage seemed like a drag. It was only after he realized that Temari was the only one for him that he remembered what his father had said to him about his mother all those years ago. He loved Temari whole heartily, he would do anything and everything for her if she asked. He wanted to share everything with her. His house. His life. His last name. Shikamaru didn't consider himself to be a romantic type, and neither did Temari, but when they were together like this, it seemed like an uncontrollable urge to do romantic things that would normally make them gag otherwise. Shikamaru was the only man that Temari could be fully herself around, and Temari was the only woman that Shikamaru could actually open up to, emotionally and all. They connected on a level too deep to comprehend, and Shikamaru often found himself thinking that he was born for her- like it was the fates design for them to fight that day, so long ago at the Chunin exams. Now they were sitting on a white sandy beach, watching the sun say it's final farewells for the day as it set behind the ocean. Her head on his shoulder, his arm around his waist as they sat on the sand.

"Can I tell you a secret?" Shikamaru asked, murmuring in to her ear as the sun disappeared from view.

"You can tell me anything." Temari held the side of his face as she smiled.

"I will love you till the end of time." Shikamaru whispered back, kissing her cheek.

Turning her hand and looking at the her ring, Temari closed her eyes and wished that time would just stand still. She wanted to live in this moment forever, content with living this day over and over again. It didn't matter what happened in the future, so long as she with Shikamaru, she would be happy. It was days like this that would be burned into both of their minds for the rest of their lives, the days they would look back on when they were old and grey. These summer days.

Authors notes;

Sorry I haven't posted anything new in the past three days or so, I was working on a chapter story that's probably about seven chapters long, only three chapters in I re-read a bunch of it and decided I didn't like it. I might try to tweak it and fix it, but if it doesn't turn out I'll just end up deleting it. It was another Shika-Tema story but ehhh I'm not sure if it's really in character and all that so I might just not bother with it.

But I do like this story. It's a very fast pace three-part (three chapter) story that's basically the start of their life together, the middle of their life together, and the last of their life together.

The feels on the bus go round and round. Round and round. Round and round.

If you liked it, be sure to leave me a review!(I promise I'll post more as soon as I can!)

And as always thanks SO much for reading, if you enjoyed the story a review is always appreciated and I will see you all in the next chapter. Chow for now, my lovely people.
