How You Remind Me

Chapter One

Agent Hill showed Steve Rogers to his room on the flying aircraft-carrier: "So, Captain, these are your chambers. I suggest you get comfortable. I'll… see you around."

"Yes, I suppose, you would… Agent?"

"Yes?" Maria turned back, just before walking through the door.

"I once knew a woman like you. She was an agent, also."

"And what happened to her?" Agent Hill turned back and crossed her arms in front of her chest.

"I do not know. I guess I was too… scared to ask. She might as well have become Tony Stark's mother."

"That must bother you." She chuckled, uncrossing her arms.

"Mr. Stark was a good man. If that's really the case, I'd say she did alright for herself. You know, I once asked her why would a beautiful lady want to become an agent. I never got an answer and I know it's been a while and the world is different know, but quite frankly - I still don't understand."

"I suppose that was meant as a compliment?" Maria crossed her arms again.

"I still don't know how to do this, do I?"

"Do what?"

"Talk to women."

"You don't know how talk to women? Haven't you ever dated one?"

"For the past year I have… well, let's just say 'dated' isn't the word I would use. You've read my file, Agent Hill?"

"Yes, I am very familiar with all of The Avengers' files."

"Then you know how I was before my… procedure. Do you really think I had good luck with women looking like that?"

"I guess maybe you just hadn't found the right one."

"No, I guess not… Agent, I couldn't help but notice that you don't have a ring on your finger."

"I am not married. Not engaged either."

"Perhaps in serious relationship?"

"Is your goal, to make me feel bad about myself, Captain?"

"Oh, no, on the contrary – I was actually wondering if it would be appropriate to ask you out on a date. Dancing - no, dinner, right?"

"I wouldn't say that it would be appropriate, no. We are working together."

"Oh right, that. Ok, then I'll ask again, when this is all over."

"You'll try." Agent Hill smirked and walked out.

*The whole thing goes by, The Avengers close the portal, catch Loki etc. etc.*

"Sir, how does it work now?" Agent Hill turned to Director Fury. "They've gone their separate ways, some pretty extremely far. We get into a situation like this again, what happens then?

"They'll come back." He said calmly.

"You really sure about that?"

"I am."

"Why?"

"Because we'll need them to. Now, go home, agent. Take a day off - you deserve it."

"I will, sir. Goodbye." She nodded.

Maria Hill was happy to finally take a breath. These had been the craziest few days in her life and all she wanted to do was go home, take a long relaxing bath and read the book. And that's when someone called her:

"Agent Hill?"

Maria turned only to see Steven Rogers, thankfully without his uniform. "Captain?"

"I said, I'd ask again, didn't I?"

"So… dancing or dinner?" She smirked

"I never really learnt to dance." He looked down

"Dinner it is. But let me chose the restaurant, ok? It's been a while since 1943, I think I know the city better."

"Of course." He smiled at her.
