PROLOGUE

"Hanzo." A bearded-man in his late forties addressed, his husky voice stern.

Renowned leader of Jappon, the fourth-leading head of the state council, Yondaime Shinsei Hogaraka, stood and his dark coal eyes watched fiercely at the solitary being.

"Hanzo. You know what's best for her. I do not have to explain this again to myself." he spoke again, his voice still strong unrelenting.

Hanzo scoffed, with his back still facing rigid to the old man.

"You keep talking, and explaining it again to yourself."

Yondaime Shinsei had his eyebrows furrowed in displease, and he finally walked away from his office desk towards Hanzo.

Even though Hanzo was intimidatingly taller and well-built than Yondaime Shinsei himself, regardless he confronted Hanzo and moved a little closer to the hard-headed ninja. He folded his arms and, held his back straight and bold.

"Hanzo." this time, he kept his voice low and gentle.

"Hanzo." he repeated.

Hanzo gave in and forced himself to meet Yondaime Shinsei's face. He breathed out an air, he has been holding it since the tension arose.

He wasn't an idiot, he knew who he was talking to, but it wasn't the first time he countered the great leader of Jappon, Yondaime Shinsei. Especially when situation comes to story-time about her, unexceptionally in most occurrences.

"She must not leave the country, she must not know about the truth. Not only Jappon, the world will soon turn into chaos. Do you not understand that?" Yondaime Shinsei sighed heavily.

"So what if she knows the truth, we shouldn't have hide it, she will only wants to uncover it more. Until then, she can take care of herself. I've seen her abilities and-"

"She's only a girl. A thirteen year-old who knows nothing else to follow your footsteps. It is final; it is time for you to move on and abandoned her."

"But until when till she resists and turns against you? That would also be the end of the light for the world."

"That would be my job. You should just stop and focus more on important things; you are one day to lead this country. I've taught you; you have grown to be one of the greatest shinobi, now a hunter after all. All the years of effort and hours of training will become of what? A waste."

"Sure."

"I'm proud of you. You should continue and progress more towards your goals. She isn't your responsibility anymore, let me handle her from this moment on."

"She's not just a responsibility. She's a family. A sister to me."

Yondaime Shinsei paused for a second before he could answered. It took him by surprise when those actual words came out of Hanzo's lips. Hanzo eyed him down menacingly, not a trace of backing down. Yondaime Shinsei knew that this conversation will lead to a dead end if he didn't pull the strings immediately. But the words that Hanzo had said, it wouldn't stop ringing in his head…

She's a family…

"Look, no matter how much you want to oppose me with this or how you wanted me to see it, the state of counsellors have decided. She will stay and you will leave. There's nothing we can do. It's what best for the country and she will also be safe anyways."

Yondaime Shinsei made his statement, and Hanzo stared blankly. After what seem a long time, Hanzo didn't react back; he kept his mouth shut but his hands clenched to a tight fist.

Hanzo felt disappointed and his heart pounded angrily. He knew there's nothing he could do anymore when the high authorities had made their decision. It's not in his league or power to change and execute the High Council's decisions.

"Do we have an agreement now, Hanzo?"

"…Yes, Yondaime-sama."

Hanzo didn't really want to leave it as it is, but he had no other choice. Although his heart had shown no true colors to be peace at the position Yondaime Shinsei had put him in, yet his breath faltered and he muttered an affirmative response.

"Dismiss."

Hanzo bowed and reluctantly turned the door knob to leave the office. Yondaime Shinsei watched him with a relief look in his eyes as Hanzo exited the room.

And as silence ensued, Yondaime Shinsei was left alone in his colossal office, he strolled over to the corner of his desk where his eyes caught a glimpse of an open folder beside another stack of mounting ones.

It was the folder of the particular; one of the applicants that he would have expected to be there.

Yondaime Shinsei had been in his office before the sun had even rise for the morning and he hasn't taken a break since then. Through all the six hours, he was dealing with signing and writing on all of the paperwork inside these folders until he mid-stopped when he was met with the particular folder and Hanzo knocking on the door at the right time.

Yondaime Shinsei took a deep breath and studied the picture that contained with the folder. An open folder with the picture of the applicant and some paperwork rest neatly inside. A girl in her early teenage years, smiled naturally and her emerald eyes twinkled in a gentle manner.

She's a family…

Yondaime Shinsei was well-aware that Hanzo wasn't the first person to say such words. It has been years since he heard it though, and to heard from someone as Hanzo, it sure reminded him a lot about the old days. He remembered the old days that he used to spend with his long-lost love, his wife. His wife had said it the same and something along the lines such as Hanzo.

Before he could pondered further into the past, Yondaime Shinsei shifted his gaze; through the large glass behind the office desk, he saw an overview of the capital city of Jappon, the blue sky laid above the buildings and towers. His dark coal observed the vast layout with compassion and encouragement.

But not only for a few seconds, the tranquility in his majesty, Yondaime-sama, was interfered by a prompt sound in the distant. Quickly he stretched over to the other side of his desk and picked up the telephone receiver as he let out a long sigh, "Hello, yes?"

The other end of the line spoke, a voice all caught in his breath. Yondaime Shinsei didn't need a confirmation and instantly sensed something was going wrong.

"Yondaime-sama, we've got a situation. The girl- she- she had left Jappon five hours ago…"
