Peridot hated this world full of NOTHING BUT GOOD FOR NOTHING CLODS.
Ahem.
That wasn't exactly true. She had come to, ah, appreciate some of the less annoying aspects of this planet named Earth. Things did get tedious at time, of course, but that was to be expected. An Earth day, which was a mere twenty four hours long, seemed more like twenty five. Or even twenty six!
Her only comfort was knowing that as soon as these Crystal Clo-ahem- Crystal Gems finished saving their pathetic planet, she could betray them. Here came the only issue.
Peridot had, and was she going to regret saying this, grown attached to these gems. Well, most of them anyway.
The Amethyst was like no gem she had yet to see thus far. She was, no doubt, the funniest gem of the bunch. However, she was also overcooked and smpall. Despite this, the Amethyst was very kind. She even laughed Peridot's jokes. It made her feel some kind of weird warmth. Peridot wondered if there was something wrong with her.
The Pearl exceeded every standard Peridot had set for her. She was independent, intelligent , and resourceful. There were times where she would break out in song or start crying, but Peridot overlooked this.
The fusion unnerved her. Why was she fused all the time? Love? The art of fusion was not for love, but to increase the strength of individual gems by binding them together. Seeing this "Garnet" made her feel bad about the gene shards. She didn't like it.
The Steven was the most confusing of all. He wasn't a gem, he wasn't a human. He was some kind of weird hybrid. However, he did not seem displeased by this fact at all. Not as far as Peridot knew, anyway. He was always smiling. Always smiling. At times it was unnerving. Even when learning about his entire planet's eventual doom, he smiled. It was Peridot feel better.
Don't tell anyone.
Seriously.
The thing that really got to Peridot though, was herself. What was she becoming? Abandoning and even betraying Yellow Diamond? Liking the enemies? Expecially when the enemies were all lesser than her! Defective, all of them!
Then, it got her like a gravity connector in the face.
Was she defective as well?
It hasn't occurred to her before, but it was certainly a possibility. She went against what her leader had commanded. Trying to stop the very project she was sent to Earth to overlook. Fearing death over carrying out her duty. A certified Kindergartner, trained to destroy planets just like this one, was WILLINGLY assisting in the attempt to save it!
No doubt about it. Peridot was defective. Question now was, did she honestly care?
Peridot had never been as happy as she was on Earth. She had made...friends...here. Odd thing when she thought about it, but it was undeniably true. They were a defective team of five. Or six, technically.
Peridot wouldn't have it any other way.
Disclaimer: I don't own Steven Universe, nor do I claim to.
A/N: I've been so busy lately. Too busy to work on my main project "Crystal Pines." I felt so bad that I hadn't posted anything, so I decided to write a short and sweet one-shot. I hope you guys enjoyed this, because it was quite fun to write. Anyways, hope you guys have an AWESOME Thanksgiving, for those who celebrate it anyway, and I'll write again real soon. Bye!
