~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Two years had changed him.  It wasn't that he looked older.  It was that he looked wiser, sharper, maybe even a little more sure of himself.  It was the eyes that gave that impression.  Those orbs staring at you through his glasses held something you didn't remember from your last meeting.  You wanted to look away, but you found yourself too fascinated with the man in front of you to do so.
The smile he tossed out, however was amazingly unchanged.  For just a moment it seemed as if the past two years were a figment of your imagination.  That he had been in the office next to Toby's all this time, but reality hit you hard.
He had left.  You offered him a different and better position, but he had refused.  He had wanted something different, something more.  You wondered what could be more than this, but he was sure.
Crossing the office, you offered him a handshake that quickly turned into a hug.  With your arm around his shoulder, you guided him to one of the armchairs and sat in the opposite one.  You passed several minutes talking about your assistant's longer hair, how Will was working out and even Mallory, then he dropped the bomb.
You knew he was here to tell you something, but you hadn't expected this.  You expected he was going to run in the 47th again, but no.
He asked you if you remembered the night in this very office when you told him that he was one of the brilliant minds of his generation.  You did.
He asked you if you remembered the Red Mass that he told you he wasn't done trying to find peace, yet.  You nodded as your eyes drifted to the yarmulke tucked next to your father's flag.
Then he told you, he was taking a step closer.  He was going to Israel to work with a group working for peace.  He was going to be their lawyer and their political liaison.  He was leaving in a couple of hours.  He was going to find peace for you, for all that you had taught him.
He rose and you nearly didn't get up you were so shocked.  He was going to Israel, to danger, for you.  You finally rose and excepted the hug he offered, vaguely wondering if it would be the last time you saw him.  You asked him if he wanted to walk him out, but he declined saying that he needed to see other people.
Clapping him on the back, you walked him to the door to the corridor.  He asked you to kiss Mallory for him and you agree.  Then, with one last hug, he was gone.  Leaving you to stare after him as he greeted people in the hallway.  When he was finally out of site, you allowed yourself to speak the words that had stuck in your throat in front of him.
"Godspeed, my son."
