Two Hearts Forever Intertwined

It was strange, surreal even, that seven years had passed her by since she had taken that holiday to Corfu with her lover. Seven years, and still she was captain of Destinies peak. It wasn't that she'd been shirt of promotion offers; in fact it was far from it. But her whole reasoning behind re-joining the Navy came from wanting not to go up the ranks but to help, to do the cliché thing of making a difference – but it was true. In seven years Jenny had gone aboard many a ship and helped clean them up. At first it had been Wayne by her side, but soon he had retired and although they kept in touch it was no longer him stood there. The year before Wayne's departure Jenny's attention had been caught by commander Mark Simons, he was young dashing and determined. He put his job first and did what was required of him. Slowly but surely she helped train him up and now he was the one who would stand by her side when she went to rescue a failing ship. But no matter how many ships she fixed, how many men she helped, destinies peek was always were she called her ship.

Jenny sighed, she was sat in her office, and they were currently sailing to south Hampton where they would dock for 3 days whilst the ship was checked for maintenance before they sailed back to the US. It had been a long tour, they'd been carrying supplies to the troops in Afghanistan where they'd come under fire, and she'd been grazed on her side, (that minor detail she had conveniently 'forgotten' to tell Jethro). Luckily though they'd just about managed to get out in one piece. The ship had been patched up, and when they docked in south Hampton it would be checked over and made sure it was fit to travel on to the US. They were only 5 hours away now, but it was 5am in the morning, and Jenny was tired. Jethro was caught up on a case and so she hadn't been able to talk. She missed him, she'd spent eight years in the Navy nearly since NCIS, and she'd spent eight years missing him. It was a times like this she wished that she wasn't a career woman, but it was also when she thought about retiring, she was nearly 50, Jethro had had his 55th birthday, and now they weren't getting any younger. She wondered if maybe these were the years she should be spending with the man she loved, not hundreds of miles away serving her country.

Jenny rummaged in her desk draw for the tiny strip of pictures she had. It was her and Jethro back in Paris. They'd taken them as part of the cover, but when it came to handing them in she'd kept them. They had been memories, days when things were so much simpler. She stared at the now faded pictures, 20 years after they had been taken. Jethro with his hair ore pepper than salt, her with her shoulder length bright red hair. They were kissing and laughing, and it brought a smile to her face. She stood up and looked out the window, she missed him, and so much it hurt.

Jenny sat back with a sigh, she'd just been given the all clear to dismiss her men for 3 days leave, and they'd docked and were ready. Smiling she made her was to the deck only to be stopped by Lieutenant Dolan. She smiled at the man whom she knew was recently married and had a little girls who he often told stories of. "Ma'am, you need to emergency evacuate the ship, there is a bomb on the lower deck we suspect was planted when we left the coast of France late last night. IT's a tier device that is set to blow in 10 minutes." He spoke calmly yet fast, something she commended him for, something she knew very few people would be able to do if they were currently in his situation. She nodded and pressed the fire alarm, she knew it would get everyone off. But when she turned there was no lieutenant there. Thinking he had left she like the rest evacuated, yet when she got off of the ship and into the clear zone he wasn't there. Fear was filling her body as she went to ask his friend who told her he had stayed on to try and disable to device. Jenny didn't know why, and probably never would, but as fast as her legs could carry her she ran. Mark grabbed her arm and pulled her back.

"That man has a new born and a wife, I will not let that little girl grow up not knowing her daddy, now I don't give a damn if it's against procedure, I was an agent, I know what I am doing now as your senior officer I order you to release me now!" she said it with fire in her eyes, Mark didn't know if she'd pulled away or if he had let go, but the last time he saw his captain and mother figure she was running onto a ship that would blow up in 2 minutes.

-two hearts forever intertwined-

She ran, fast, straight, her vision set on that boat and the man who was destined to eb a hero. She knew why he was doing it, this was a civilian dock, people were around, the police weren't yet here to tape off the area, the boats were peoples livelihoods, he didn't want to sabotage that. But he it seemed was too much like Jethro, and so was she. She ran on the boat, knowing her way around like the back of her hand, she inwardly thanked the lord she had thought to wear trousers today as she was able to move easier.

Jenny ran down the grey corridors, down the stairs and towards the basement. She had one minute exactly. There he was she looked at the timer as she grabbed him. "GO!" she shouted, and as she said it she tapped his pocket where his photo of his little girl was and he knew to run.

Jenny looked at the bomb in front of her, there were multiple red wires, and black. She read the time 0:45, 0:44, 0:43…and she knew it was time to run, she could do nothing. So she ran, ran faster that every faster and harder. But it wasn't enough.

-two hearts forever intertwined-

Lieutenant Dolan ran off the ship, toward the rest. Mark ran forward to him. Everyone sighed a sigh of relief, he was safe. They smiled and laughed. Then Mark looked at Dolan. "Where is Jenny?"

There was a flash of guilt, a look of horror and of fear; "She told me to go."

Mark felt like he'd been hit by a car, the air knocked out of him. As he turned to look at the ship he was about to run but was held back by a load of men as the ship they all called home for so many months went up in flames, it exploded. With a bang and smoke, itt became nothing but a floating mass of rubble. And Jenny, the red head, the admired, the mother, the friend, the sister…the one they all thought was gone.

As it exploded Mark shouted, screamed, "NO!" he couldn't believe it…
