I own nothing but the story line.

Tanya POV

There was nothing we could do but watch as Carlisle's whole world melted around him.
"So will you join us now Carlisle?" Aro asked, smiling as if nothing had happened, as if he hadn't just murdered an entire family.
Carlisle shook his head violently, taking several steps back without taking his eyes off the beast in front of him. "K-kill me," he begged him desperately. Eleazar flinched next to me. Aro reached forward to take Carlisle's hand. He didn't seem to notice the man was touching him, just stood there in shock. Aro recoiled suddenly.
"You aren't that much of a coward to really want that, are you?" His voice was sickly sweet, persuading. Carlisle whispered something too low from me to hear. Aro looked faintly disturbed. Marcus had an 'I told you so' look on his face. "Come on friend, we mean you know harm. We just want to help you, and you to help us." He spoke calmly.
"I DON'T WANT YOU'RE FUCKING HELP!" Carlisle screamed at him, shaking him off. I could see he was prepared to run.
"Be reasonable Carlisle, I know you're hurting now, but once it subsides you will be thankful for us, see that it's necessary."
Carlisle laughed bitterly. His whole body trembled. "Kill me you bustard," he spat. Aro sighed as if he was frustrated by a difficult small child.
"For a pastor's son I thought you would use better language, child. You have disappointed me."
"Enough Aro," Caius growled. We all jumped, not expecting a call of protection to come from him.
"You need us Carlisle," Aro continued. Eleazar was getting more and more nervous.
"Stop."
"We need you."
"ARO."
"You can't honestly think that you can keep us this animal drinker gimmick, can you? I mean really-"
"STOP IT NOW! YOU'VE DONE ENOUGH!" Caius shrieked. The Volturi had lost their looks of amusement at his shout.
"Fine," Aro muttered like he was bored with his little game anyway. Carlisle watched them go without moving, just watching the piles of ashes unmoving on the ground.

"Carlisle…?" Eleazar asked quietly. The blond vampire didn't give any indication that he had heard him speak. He turned and came back toward us, darting into the trees before anyone could grab him, heading in the direction of home.
We dawdled on our way back, not sure what we were facing. I had no idea what he was going to be like and how we were going to handle him.
