I just watched Earl and Fairy and I loved it! I think Edgar is awesome even I he is a selfish idiot (a super hot, good looking idiot but an idiot nonetheless). Even when he got drunk in episode 9 (or was it 10?) he is still awesome (except he had the audacity to whisper another woman's name when he was about to do it with his so called 'fiancée'). Raven is awesome too but I think Kelpie is the best because I feel so sorry for him (and he's really good looking). He loved Lydia but she didn't love him. That is why I invented this KelpiexOC fic!

Also (and I'm sure you are all tired of my rambling thoughts), Lydia is an idiot. Some guy tricks you because of a dare and you decide you can't love any guy anymore. She was, what, seven when it happened? Heck, I can't remember most of the things that happened to me when I was seven! And I'm only fourteen! She's eighteen! That's, like, eleven years difference! Either she has long term memory or she really enjoys holding a grudge against men. Woo, now that that's off my chest…

I do not own Earl and Fairy, I don't own anything on this site except my story plots and OCs!

Finally, this will be an extremely long oneshot. I have no idea how many people will read it through to the end (or read it at all) but I felt like typing it anyway.

The Kelpie's Love

I walked beside the edge of the river, the moon's silver rays reflecting off the now, midnight blue surface. I inhaled a breath of the cool air and brushed a strand of my waist length, blue black hair out of my face. I laced my fingers together behind my back as I continued strolling. Coming to the edge of the river, I stopped walking. I had wandered off the path a few minutes ago had ended up under the shade of some trees. Smiling slightly, I slipped off my shoes and dipped a foot into the water. The sudden touch of the cold water shocked my senses but, as I slowly acclimatized to the temperature, I slipped my other foot inside. "Mmm," I hummed, pulling my dress a bit higher and sitting down on the grass. It felt so still and calm, so peaceful.

Something rippled the water not too far away from me and I looked over. A royal blue kingfisher, almost navy, swooped down and snatched a silver fish out of the water. I stared, mesmerized by the fathomless colours, the droplets of water that splashed into the air like tiny diamonds. Then I gaped when a hand shot out of the water, and snatched the bird out of the air before it had gone far and pulled it underwater. The movement was sharp and darting, graceful yet lethal. There was barely a splash. Gasping, I scrambled to my feet and stumbled back. "Oi." I looked around, who was talking? I turned and stared, my eyes widening in shock. A tall, black haired man was slowly walking out of the river. "What are you doing on my turf?" He's…a Kelpie!

"Uh…" I blinked. "Nothing," I dropped my gaze. I could feel his gaze boring holes into my body. All the stories and folklore I'd read about Kelpie eating people and animals came flooding back and I took a step back.

"Get out`," he snapped. I raised my eyes to look at him and saw his eyes widen. "Your eyes…"

"What about my eyes?" I knew my eyes were strange, the colour was very rare and I'd been teased constantly because of them. Not that I cared.

"They're…green," he took a step forward. "You, what's your name?" I focused on his eyes, they were completely black but his pupils resembled small, swirling stars.

"Alyssa," I stood straighter. "Alyssa Gordon." He kept staring at me. "You are…a Kelpie, aren't you?" He shrugged, folding his arms.

"Yes," he seemed to have finished his appraisal of me and was glaring now. "Leave, or I will eat you."

"Eat me, really?" I frowned, momentarily forgetting that I was in the presence of a carnivorous creature that could eat things bigger than me and only leave the liver behind. "Why would you do that?" I folded my arms, eyes closed and chin raised. "I haven't done anything to you Kelpie, so what reason do you have to eat me?"

He stared back at me, eyes widening slightly. "You remind me of someone…" he looked away. I cocked my head at him. He shook his head and looked back at me, "still, you'd better you leave."

"Why, I like it here," I turned, presenting my profile. "It's so pretty, the water is always so pure and sparkling!" I opened my eyes. He was watching me out of those dark, mysterious eyes. I suddenly remembered my predicament and looked down.

"The water is pure because I keep it pure," he said, sitting down on the grass. I looked at him properly, studying him. He was lean and slender but well built. I stood, wondering whether I was to sit beside him or not. He didn't look as though he still wanted to eat me at least. That's was what I hoped anyway.

"Kelpies can purify water, can't they?" I finally decided to sit down, opposite him.

"You are fairy doctor, ain'tcha?" He leaned towards me. He shook his head, sighing, "Why are all of you female fairy doctors beautiful?" I blinked and blushed slightly.

"You must be mistaken Kelpie," I blushed, looking down at my lap. "I'm not beautiful at all." I have never been good with compliments. They make me uncomfortable.

"And modest too," he smirked.

"Stop talking please," I frowned and glared, looking up. His smirk grew.

"And stubborn, quite feisty too," he continued. He brushed the tip of his fingers against my cheek. "Where were you going, Alyssa?" I blushed slightly and leaned away from him. His arm fell back to his lap.

"Don't call me that!" I snapped, "I'm on holiday here."

"Are you alone?" He arched an eyebrow at me, leaning back.

"None of your business!" I huffed and folded my arms. I was alone though, he didn't have to know that.

"You are alone," he smirked. "It's dangerous for a pretty lady, like you to be out here at night." His eyes darkened, if that was even possible. "Who knows what kind of danger you might meet?" He whispered. I glared at him.

"The only danger, so far that I've met, is a Kelpie who threatened to eat me," I huffed again. He chuckled and stood, holding out his hand to me. I stared at it quietly before taking it hesitantly and yelped in surprise when he pulled me up roughly to his chest.

"Go home Alyssa," he whispered in my ear. He smelled like the rain, but somehow purer and sweeter. Flushing, I pushed him away, and wrapped my arms around myself. "Goodnight…Alyssa," he smirked and began to walk backwards into the water. As he stepped back, he transformed into a tall, ebony black horse that eventually disappeared beneath the waters. I stared at the water silently, still in shock. It was still and quiet, you would never have known what had occurred before. Rising, I dusted my skirt and walked away from the spot.

~X~

Don't ask me why I decided to go back to the spot where I met the Kelpie. I don't know either, I just felt like going. Or maybe it was curiosity. Despite all that I'd read and the creatures I'd seen, I'd never actually met a Kelpie before. Fairies, Brownies and Will 'o' The Wisps I had met, but never a Kelpie.

Being a fairy doctor, a being that could see creatures no one else could, was a burden or a blessing. It depends on how you look at it. When I was really young, conversing with unseen creatures was seen as being sweet, adults thought I was talking to an imaginary friend or that I had a vivid imagination. Yet, as I grew older, people began to shun me and tell me I was strange, that I should stop acting like a child. I thought I was strange as well, but my world was more vivid, much brighter than theirs. At least, that was what I thought. I paused, I had walked farther than I had yesterday. The water here was much deeper, and it was a darker shade of blue.

"Did you get lost pretty one?" I turned in surprise. My surprise turned to irritation.

"Hello Kelpie," I replied. "No, I came for a walk."

"On my turf?" He smirked, hands in the pockets of his trousers. He didn't look too angry about that. I shrugged and kept walking. The quite rustle of grass let me know I was being followed.

"Why are you following me?" I asked. He shrugged.

"I felt like," was his reply. "You are on my turf." I shook my head and looked up. Through the trees I could see a large, stone castle in the distance. I had never seen it before. Curious, I turned to the Kelpie.

"Kelpie, who's castle is that?" I pointed. He followed my finger and his eyes narrowed slightly.

"That is the castle of the Blue Knight Earl," he replied.

"Is he there?"

"Yes, with his bride," he muttered the last part bitterly. "Lydia Carlton."

"Lydia!" I gasped. "Lydia Carlton?"

"Yes," he looked at me. "You know her?"

"We were friends when we were younger, before she left for Scotland," I answered. I looked back at the castle. "I'm going to visit her."

~X~

Lydia was always strange, just as strange as I was. When we were little, she was the one who always calmed me down when I got angry. She hadn't changed much though; her luxurious auburn hair had grown out so it curled around her shoulders down to her waist. Her eyes were still that mystifying, peridot green. "Lydia!" I threw my arms around her.

"Alyssa?" She hugged me back. "You've changed!"

"You haven't!" I beamed. She led me to out to the garden. "So, I heard you were getting married," I poked her side. "Is he handsome?" I teased. She blushed furiously.

"Well…I suppose Edgar is quite handsome," she blushed. I rolled my eyes and took her hands.

"Lydia, just say you think he is handsome!"

"Alright, you always were so pushy," she giggled. "I suppose you really haven't changed inside."

"You have, somewhat," I smiled a bit. "Since you're getting married, I suppose you've forgotten that incident that occurred when you were seven?"

"Yes, Edgar made me forget," she looked down. "I'm glad I'm marrying him."

"I'm glad I'm marrying you too, my fairy." A tall man with blonde hair and beautiful ash mauve eyes approached us. "Who is this?"

"Edgar, this is Alyssa, my friend." He smiled at me.

"Pleased to meet you," he bowed slightly. "Lydia, I will be in the study." He bent and kissed her cheek. I smiled when her cheeks turned pink. When he had disappeared, I turned to her with an eyebrow raised.

"Well someone seems infatuated," I teased. Lydia smiled, the smile of a lovesick young girl. I smiled back as we linked arms, it seems even the years apart didn't diminish our bond.

~X~

I leaned my back against a rock and closed my eyes. The water rushed between my toes, calming, soothing. I could feel the tiny fish swimming, nibbling my toes experimentally before darting away. Something brushed against my ankle and I shook my foot. Then something bit my big toe and I squealed, yanking my leg out of the water. "Hello Alyssa," Kelpie grinned, his head above the water. He was the one who had bitten my toe. It hadn't been that hard a bite though.

"Kelpie!" I slid my foot back into the water as he climbed out and sat beside me. "Why did you bite my toe?"

"It looked delicious," he smirked. I sighed and looked away. I saw him frown out of my peripheral vision. He may not have known me for long, but he knew that I would normally have been angrier. "What's wrong?"

"I don't know." I did. I was thinking about my childhood. "I just feel…really upset," I sighed. He stood and walked away. Well, he probably didn't want to spend his time beside a depressed girl.

"Here, this will make you smile." I looked up; he was kneeling beside me and holding out his palms. Inside was a tiny kitten, it was white with brown and black stripes on its back. Its ears were dark brown and its eyes were large and blue. It mewed softly.

"Oh, it's so sweet!" I took the kitten from him, cupping it in my palms. "You ate the mother, didn't you?"

"No," he sat down beside me. "It was abandoned, I picked it up." He watched me tickle the kitten between its ears. "Do you feel better?"

"Yes, I do," I smiled and kissed the top of its head.

"You don't want to eat it?" He smirked. I looked up at him in shock.

"No, I could never ever want to eat something so cute," I lifted it up and brushed my nose against its tiny, wet nose. It mewed again and brushed its face against my cheek. "I want to keep it, and love it and protect it."

"Then smile," he reached over and touched the side of my lip with a finger. "Smile Alyssa." He smiled into my eyes with those mysterious, dark eyes. I bit my bottom lip.

"Thank you Kelpie." I smiled, looking up at him.

"You're welcome Alyssa," he wrapped an arm around my shoulders and pulled me to his side. We sat like that for a while, me petting the kitten, he rubbing my upper arm. "Why aren't you afraid of me?"

"Huh?" I looked up at him. He was looking down into my eyes. "What?"

"The first time we met, you didn't run or scream or anything," he stopped stroking my arm. "You started arguing with me, you should have been terrified."

"I was always a stubborn child," I shrugged. "People said it wasn't befitting a girl to be stubborn."

"Who said that?" He asked.

"The matrons at the finishing school I went to," I answered. "When I was eight, my parents drowned while rowing. I was sent off to live with my aunts in Ireland, they didn't want me." I stroked the kitten's fur gently, remembering. My aunts hadn't wanted a stubborn, thin, green eyed girl. They wanted someone quiet, polite and the kind of child that was seen but not heard. "They sent me to a finishing school when I was ten."

"So, what happened?"

My lips twitched into a smile, "I bit one of the girls." I looked at him; he looked as though he was trying not to laugh.

"Why did you do that?" He chuckled.

"She told me I was acting like a witch because only witches spoke to things that weren't there and that I was probably talking to the Devil," I shrugged. "I got angry and told her she was a stupid cow."

"And then?"

"She said it was probably my fault my parents died and I was a bad luck child and, even if it wasn't my fault, my parents probably deserved to die anyway," I stopped petting the kitten. "So I leaped on her and bit her arm." And pulled her hair. And kicked her. I was a wildcat. "I was expelled."

"Wow," he shook his head.

"I know," I opened my palm so the kitten could climb onto my knees. She sat on her haunches, surveying the view of the river with her tail swishing. "You're so cute and sweet," I stroked the fur between her ears, watching the soft brown and black fur bend under my thumb and spring back into place. The kitten purred. "I'm going to name you Opal."

"Opal?" He chuckled and ran his fingers through my hair. He stopped laughing and gazed down at me. "Your hair is so soft," he leaned closer and buried his nose in my hair, pulling me closer to his side. "You smell like roses," he inhaled. I blushed and felt his breath fan my cheeks. "Sweet, sweet roses," he whispered into my hair.

"K-Kelpie!" I placed my hands on his chest to push him away. "What are you doing, don't!"

"Why not?" He was too strong; he scooped up the kitten with one hand and placed it on the grass beside me so she wouldn't be squashed nor would she run the risk of falling into the water. "I can't wait for Lydia anymore," he whispered, pulling me closer so I was almost on his lap. He hugged me with his other arm and buried his face in my hair. "I want you."

"You whatnow?" I pushed harder, he didn't budge. "Kelpie, let go!" I pushed again. "And what do you mean you can't wait for Lydia anymore?"

"I loved Lydia," he whispered. His voice sounded angry, pain filled and resigned. "She chose that earl instead." His hold tightened.

"Kelpie," I sighed. I stroked the hair at the nape of his neck, I could feel his pain. It hurts when you love someone but they don't love you. Not that I knew that, I was always very skeptical about people. "I'm sorry, but you have to forget." I took his face between my palms and made him look into my eyes. "Forget her because Lydia loves Edgar, if you truly loved her than her happiness would mean more to you than yours," I searched his eyes. "Okay?"

He seemed to be searching my eyes as well, and then he smiled. "That doesn't erase the fact that I still want you."

"Where do I come into this?" I released his face and leaned back as far as I could, which wasn't all that far.

"I want you, Alyssa Gordon," he repeated and came closer until his nose touched mine.

"Kelpie, let go of me!" My eyes widened and I looked down. "Why do…"

"Come with me," he whispered, cutting me off. His breath felt warm against my skin. "I will take care of you."

"I can take care of myself!" I argued. He chuckled and leaned closer.

"Maybe," he replied. "Come anyway, see if you like the fairy world." I looked up at him in shock.

"Y-you want to take me to the fairy world?" I twisted in his arms. "Why would I go there?"

"There is nothing for you here, you are alone." I shivered and looked away, out towards the river. "Come with me." I looked out towards the river. I was alone, an orphan with no family since my aunts died a few years back. Lydia…

"Could I still come back to visit Lydia?" I asked.

"Yes, if I take you," he smirked. I glared and looked away, chin raised and eyes closed.

"Fine then, Kelpie, I will come," I looked back with a hard look. "But let us be clear, I am not yours, you do not have me, and if I don't like it I'm coming back!"

"You're an ornery wisp ain'tcha?" He chuckled, releasing me and helping me to my feet.

"Don't call me a wisp, and I'm not ornery!" I folded my arms. "I'm only like this when I'm angry!" I squealed when he hefted me into his arms and began to carry me, bridal style, into the water. "W-wait!"

"What is it?" He grunted.

"Opal," I pointed at the small kitten which was staring at me and mewing pitifully. Kelpie sighed and put me down so I could pick her up. I cradled her in my arms. "Thank you."

"You're welcome." Going down was strange, I kept expecting that at some point I'd stop breathing but I found that I could breathe and so could Opal. He swam through a mass of bubbles and I giggled through the ticklish sensation and suddenly, we were swimming up again. "Welcome to the fairy world," our heads broke through the surface and I gasped. We were in a huge forest but it was different from any forest I'd ever seen. It seemed to glimmer and shine with vitality and life. Tiny, rainbow coloured sparkles flew roundabout the trees like tiny pinpricks of light.

"Kelpie," I sighed and leaned against his chest. "It's so beautiful." He placed me down beside the river. Opal scrambled down and curled around my legs. I watched the Kelpie disappear among the trees before returning with an armful of soft heather. "What are those for?" I quizzed, I wondered whether I should help him carry it but he dumped it all on the grass before I could.

"A bed," he replied. "You will be happy here," he stood beside me and pushed on my shoulder, making me fall back onto the heather. Opal jumped onto my lap. Kelpie sat down beside me and wrapped an arm around my shoulders. "Are you happy now?"

Was I happy? Calm, yes. Peaceful, yes. Fascinated, yes. But was I happy? I smiled slightly. "I am, but I don't know why."

"Maybe it's because you know a man wants you," he pushed me down onto the heather and leaned over me, his arms on either side of me. Trapping me.

I flushed at his words. "I don't need a man to want me before I can be happy!" I argued.

"Alyssa." The way he said my name, so softly and gently, I blushed harder.

"Kelpie, what are you doing?" I blinked. I stared at his eyes, he has beautiful eyes. He stared at me a moment longer so I repeated the question.

"Nothing," he shook his head, sighed and dropped down beside me. "I'm tired."

"Then rest, Kelpie," I whispered. He wrapped his arms around my waist and pulled me closer so my head was resting on his chest and his face was buried my hair.

"You will not leave, will you Alyssa?" He murmured. I stroked his hair, it was soft and silky.

"I cannot leave anyway," I smiled. "Even if I could, I won't leave you." A small smile graced his lips and he fell asleep. After a minute of watching fairies fly up to him to check if he was truly asleep, I stretched and fell asleep beside him

~X~

I awoke to the sound of giggling and water splashing. I opened my eyes and sat up, stretching. "Ooh, she's awake!" I looked up. Five fairies were hovering in front of me. Kelpie was gone. The one that had spoken, the lilac one, spoke again. "Who are you?"

"Alyssa," I replied. The golden one spoke.

"How did you get here?" She quizzed.

"The Kelpie brought me," I answered. They broke into rounds of chatter.

"Don't you know he will eat you?" The red one darted around my head worriedly.

"Kelpie won't eat me fairy," I soothed. "What is your name?"

"I am Cherry," she replied. "That is Violet," she pointed at the lilac one. "That is Amber," she pointed at the golden one. "That is Skye," she pointed at a blue fairy. "And that is Indigo," she pointed at a dark purple fairy.

"Hello," I greeted.

"What do you mean the Kelpie won't eat you?" Skye asked, cocking her head.

"He won't, we're…friends," I shrugged, for lack of a better word. They looked at me disbelievingly.

"Oh, she's a fairy doctor," Indigo flew closer and took in my eyes. "No wonder."

"No wonder what?" I asked.

"Nothing!" they chirped and hovered above my head.

"You need a change of clothes!" Violet frowned and flew around me, sprinkling me with lilac fairy dust. I closed my eyes; the sparkles tickled my nose and skin. When I opened my eyes, I was wearing a long, pale purple dress with a fitted bodice but no sleeves. The dress had ribbons that criss crossed up my neck and tied at the back in a small bow. My hair hung loose around my face. I looked down at myself and twirled.

"Thank you!" I turned to smile at them but they were already flying off. I called after them. "Wait, where is Kelpie?" I placed my hands on my hips and sighed. I hope he didn't leave me behind to be eaten or killed or…anything.

"Who were you talking to?" I turned in surprise. Kelpie was standing in the shade of the trees. His arms were laden with fruits. I threw my arms around him, almost knocking off most of the fruits. "Oi, careful!"

"I thought you'd gone and left me!" I pushed him back and walked back to the bed of heather. "You brought food." He sat down beside me and dropped his cache of food. There were scarlet red apples, juicy green grapes and soft pink peaches. I selected an apple and bit into it, tasting the sweet yet sour juice. "Thank you Kelpie!" When I had finished with the apple, I reached for the grapes and popped one in my mouth. I began to peel it with my teeth and tongue. I reached for another but he grabbed it before me. "Wha-?"

He smirked and plucked one. "Do you like grapes?" He rolled it between his fingers. I nodded slowly. "Good," he grinned and placed it in his mouth. Almost immediately, he opened his mouth with the peeled grape on his tongue. "Take it."

"What?" I folded my arms. "I am not taking it from your mouth!" I reached for the bunch of grapes but he was faster. He grabbed my arms and pinned them down above my head. He leaned over me, his face mere inches from mine.

"K-Kelpie…?" I looked up into his eyes, then back at the grape. It lay there, balanced sweetly between his teeth. It's just a grape, I don't need it. But…I do want to kiss him. The realization that I did, in fact, have feelings for Kelpie, made my eyes widen and my cheeks flush. "I am not taking it!" I turned my head away. I felt his lips brush my cheek softly.

"Well?" He teased; his tongue darted out and licked my skin. My cheeks grew warmer, my breath quickened.

"D-don't kelpie," I breathed. I looked up at him. His face was so close to mine. "Kelpie!"

Kelpie…

Kelpie…

Kelpie!

He looked up, the grape forgotten. "It's Lydia," he whispered. "She's calling me." I breathed out softly and twisted my neck towards the river.

"Are you going?" He looked reluctant to release me from my position on the ground. I hoped he did. I was feeling…feelings I hadn't ever felt before. He looked back at me. "You should go," I pressed.

"Why?" he shifted his weight so he was lying beside me and released my arms. "I don't have to be at her beck and call anymore." He smirked at me. "I am at your beck and call now."

"Uh…" what can you say to something like that? "Still, let's go and see her, she might be looking for me." I stood and stretched. I hadn't realized it before but it was evening now, the water looked as still as glass.

"Fine," he stood. "I will go." He looked down at Opal who was nuzzling around his legs. I bent and gathered her into my arms. "Come here," he grabbed my arm and lifted me into his arms.

"Will Opal be alright if we leave her alone?" I asked, looking down at the small kitten. He followed my gaze and regarded the small creature for a while.

"I doubt it," was his reply. I cuddled her closer.

~X~

It must have been a strange sight, a young woman riding out of a fountain on the back of a large, ebony black horse. I could imagine the image; it would look almost dreamlike and unrealistic. Lydia stood when she saw us. I hadn't realized the fountain was in front of their castle. It was just outside one of the balconies. "Alyssa!" She gasped. I smiled and waved, sliding down from the Kelpie. He shifted and changed back into his human form.

"Hello Lydia," I smiled.

"I was so worried; I thought you'd been kidnapped!" She grabbed my hands. "Where were…?" Her gaze fell upon Kelpie and her eyes narrowed. "Kelpie?"

"I took her to fairy world," he shrugged, almost nonchalantly.

"Why did you do that?" Lydia gaped. He folded his arms and glared at her. It wasn't a harsh glare, it was a glare that carried the message back off.

"Because I wanted her," he replied. "Because…she makes me forget." He looked at me when he said that and I flushed, remembering my words. "Why did you call me?"

"I…I just wanted to know if you had seen Alyssa," Lydia mumbled. She squeezed my hands. "Alyssa, you will come for the wedding, won't you?" She smiled at me. I smiled and nodded, returning the gentle pressure.

"Of course, Lydia."

"Good," she smirked and lowered her voice so only I could hear it. 'Then I'll come for yours!" I gaped, blushed and pushed her away.

"Lydia, don't say things like that!" I shook my head and looked away. "Kelpie," I walked back to him and leaned my head against his chest as I wrapped my arms around his waist. "I'm sleepy…"

"Then we will go home," he picked me up. "Goodbye Lydia." I sensed that those two words carried more than just a simple parting. I think I fell asleep after that. I remember the ticklish sensation of thousands of bubbled fizzing past my skin and the cool air that blew my hair to the side. And his voice. His deep, loving voice. Alyssa, Alyssa…

Yeah, that's about as far as I feel like going…I'm done here. If you actually sat though this and read this then I congratulate you for having the determination and sheer willpower to sit through all that. I hope I get at least a few reviews. Thank you!
