Tell Me You Love Him
Written for missyangel87
Mai sat at her desk, tapping her pencil on the desk as she waited for the order she got once every hour. It wasn't like her to be like this, but she just could not wait any longer. She has been waiting for over an hour now to see him, and truthfully, she is about to burst out of her seat if she has to wait any longer.
"Mai, tea." came the words she had been waiting for. Mai jumped out of her seat eagerly as she ran to the kitchen. She placed the now filled kettle of water on the burner, bouncing with anticipation as she waited for it to boil. She turned and went to the cabinet where she took out two tea cups and placed the on the tray that was waiting for her by the stove. She then grabbed the tea bags and placed them into the cups before turning her attention back to the kettle. She stared at it, waiting for it boil.
"Come on." She said as she looked behind her at the door labeled CEO. "Boil faster!" Mai said as she turned her attention back to the kettle. There was a soft noise, before it slowly grew louder and louder. Before she knew it, steam was shooting out of the top, along with the piercing whistle.
Mai grabbed the kettle and pulled it off the burner, shutting it off. She then quickly poured the water into the cups before placing it back on the burner. She then watched as the water turned brown, and when the tea was done, she took out the tea bags and placed them in the sink before carefully picking up the tray. She walked over to the door that was labeled CEO, and knocked.
"Come in." said the voice from behind it. Mai balanced the tray on one arm as she opened the door with the other. The door sung open to reveal a dark office, the only light coming from the lamp on the side desk and the slight beam coming through the curtains behind the desk. As Mai made her way to the desk, she noticed the boy sitting behind it, his head down as he read the file in his hand. He did not look up at her as she placed the tea down in front of him.
"Is that all?" Mai asked as she moved away from the desk.
"Yes." Naru said before even before he got the answer out, the door was closing behind Mai. He stared at the door for a moment, but said nothing. He decided not to question her today.
Mai walked over to the door next her and knocked. She waited anxiously as she listened for the sign to come in. When she did, she pushed open the door and walked in. In the dark light, she could see the tall silent Lin Kōujo typing at his desk. Mai felt a blush rise to her face as she walked over and placed down the cup of tea next to him, brushing his arm in the process. She then grabbed his empty cup and placed it on the tray before saying.
"I-Is that all?" She asked, standing in the darkness, hoping it wasn't. He just nodded his head, not bothering to look at her. Mai bowed before turning to leave.
Mai exhaled the breath she had been holding as she closed the door behind her and leaned up against it. Mai Taniyama has been in love his Lin Kōujo for three months now. And not just because her boss had rejected her. No, she had loved him since they had first met, it was just her boss who had gotten in the way.
Unfortunately, Lin would never return her feelings. He barely even noticed her anymore, especially after her confession to Naru. There was no way he would ever believe that she had loved him and not Naru.
"What are you doing?" asked a voice that pulled her out of her thoughts. Mai stood up straight to see Kazuya Shibuya, aka Naru, standing there.
"Nothing, what are you doing?" Mai asked, as she straight herself out. Naru gave her a questionable look.
"I am here to inform you a client is coming to talk about a case offer." Naru said. "Please make more tea for her arrival." With that, he turned and walked back into his office, ignoring Mai.
Mai sighed to herself as she walked back to the kitchen to make more tea. Naru didn't say when the costumer was coming, but by the way he had said it, it sounded like they would be here within the hour. Though, Mai did not have to wait that long, because ten minutes later, the bell rung, tell her the door had opened. Mai stood up and walked to the front of the desk, where she found a young woman standing there.
"Hello, my name is Mai Taniyama, do you have an appointment?" Mai asked with a smile. She felt her heart skip as beat as the woman smiled and nodded her head. She was going to see him again. "Then please have a seat on the couch while I get my boss." Mai gestured to the couch as she began to make her way to the door that was labeled CEO. She knocked on the door and opened it, peeking her head in. The boy behind the desk looked up at him. "The client is here." Mai said before closing the door quickly and walking over to the next door. She knocked on it and waited for the sign. When she heard it she opened it and stepped in, closing the door behind her.
"Lin the client is here." She said as she felt her heart begin to race. The man turned around in his chair and nodded before grabbing his laptop and standing up. Mai held open the door for him as he walked out. As she closed the door behind her, she saw Naru giving her a strange look.
"What? I am getting your tea, just give me a minute." Mai said as she walked to the kitchen, hoping Naru didn't see the blush that had crept up on her cheeks. She began to prepare the tea as she listened to the interview start.
"My name is Hitro, Kina and I need your help." She said. "My house has been haunted for quite a while now, and I just don't know what I am to do. There is a little girl who has been moving things and setting rooms on fire and...I just can't take it much longer."
"Have you thought about leaving the house?" Naru asked the whistle from the kettle began to boil. Mai took the kettle off the burner and poured the water into four tea cups that were already on a tray for her. She waited for the water to turn brown before taking out the tea bags and placing them in the sink with the two from earlier. She lifted the tray up and began to head for the other room.
"Yes, but it keeps following me everywhere I go. No one wants to offer me a place anymore because of it. I just needed it gone."Mai placed down the tray on the table and handed a cup of tea to the woman, in hopes it might calm them down. She then lifted a cup and walked to the other side of the couch, where she placed it down beside Lin, who just nodded as he finished typing.
"Alright, we will take it. We need a base and two other rooms for our sleeping arrangements. We can be there in two days." Naru said before standing up. "And Mai, I will take my tea in my office." he said before walking through the door labeled CEO.
"Why not just take it with you?" Mai asked as she stared at the door. She heard a noise and looked down to find a smile on Lin's face. "What?"
"Nothing." He said as he closed his laptop and stood up. He quickly finished his tea before nodding good-bye to the woman and walking back in his office. Mai sighed to herself before showing the woman out.
