It was the worst thing in his world when he fell in love with her. Caring for someone is different, that can be left behind with minimal damage but love... Somehow she had wedged herself into his heart when he wasn't sure he had one.
The way she laughed, the sparkle in her eye when she teased one of her friends, the concern on her face when she healed her party. She threw all of herself into everything she did including care for him. She was perfection.
And now he was breaking her heart more than he already had.
"Solas please don't leave..." her voice was barely a whisper, the words gritted through teeth due to the pain. He had to close his eyes to stop himself from giving in. Something about her made him so week.
"The path I am on... There is only death ma vhenan. I would not wish you to see who I become." His voice betrayed him, so full of sorrow and regret. To love is to break.
"You can't make that choice for me Solas. I won't give up on you, please." He looked down on his beautiful Lavallen. His Vhenan. Tears ran down her face which was illuminated by the green from her mark. His mark. He had brought her so much pain, how could he bear to bring her more? Yet here he was. Though he was breaking her heart she still claimed she would fight for him. If only he could be half so noble.
Slowly he leaned down and wrapped his hand around her wrist and he took the pain away. The side effect of such a thing being her hand would be gone too but such a small price to pay for keeping life.
A life she would spend searching for him. A life half lived.
He kissed her and tasted salt on her cracked lips and felt a sob bubble from her throat.
"Please Solas, ma area. Ar lath. " and though she had said them before with her sadness on his to tongue and the prospect of her wasting her life trying to reach him no matter how he tried to stop her, he caved.
"Ma nuvenin."
She looked at him and he took a deep breath and then took her into his arms to carry her towards something that they could never return from.
Ma nuvenin - as you wish
Ma arla - my home
Ar lath - I love you
Ma vhenan - my heart
