For the homunculi, forever was just a fact. It was implied that they would be around forever. They did have to watch out, they could be killed. But... when you cannot die through normal means, forever was just a fact.

For an alchemist, forever was something to reach for. It was an ultimate goal embodied in a blood red stone. It was a forbidden concept that was just so tempting that everyone wanted it. Forever was also one of the greatest dreams of the alchemist.

For genin, forever was there. They were freshly graduated brand-new ninja and they thought they were the best. The feeling of immortality lent itself to the imagination and led them to making promises of love and devotion and forever.

For jounin, forever was... nothing. It had no meaning, no place in their lives. They made their living by killing people and not being killed by other people. When you could die every day on every mission, you tried not to think about the future, tried not to think about forever.

For the ANBU, there is no forever. It is undefined, absolutely no meaning. They had no faces, no identities. They were shadows, ghosts, nothing. And what is forever to something that technically doesn't exist?
