Different woman
The meeting at Wayne Tower was like always. Bruce was listening attentively at every word that was said. At the same time he pretended lack of interest and the tiredness of his inexistent playboy nightlife. Over the years he had learned to coordinate his two lifes in a way that things like falling asleep during a meeting were kept to a minimum.
The meeting was getting to an end and its participants were speaking only about for him irrelevant things. This was usually the time for Bruce to rest his mind. He taught the others early on that he was no one for small talk. At least after a meeting.
His thoughts wandered to the planing for the nightly patrole later that day. That was the moment when a young woman entered the room. She was very slim and had blonde hair that was made to a loose knot in her neck. In combination with a black skirt and a grey shirt her appearance was inconspicuous. Nevertheless Bruce noticed her right away and because of his trained attentiveness he knew immediately that she had to be new here.
In her hands she balanced a tray with some coffee cups. She closed the door and then her gaze wandered uncertainly over the talking people.
After a not very loud "coffee?" on which there was no response, she looked unsure wether to ask again or to just stand there. Instead she began to walk slowly around the big table. Since Bruce was the only one who wasn't involved in a conversation and anyway watching her actions, her searching eyes finally met his. At this moment he could see the relief in her eyes. A second later the young lady came determined toward him.
When she had reached him she replied her shyly question, this time with a light smile on her face.
"Coffee?"
Stunned and not knowing why, Bruce for a moment could only look in her deep blue eyes.
In time he caught himself and gave yet a slightly bemused response.
"Am...yes please."
To his surprise or more to his nuisance the seductive playboy-like look, which he otherwise gave secretaries, he did not succeed this time.
Befor Bruce had a chance to improve his response, his neighbor finally gave the woman, or rather the coffee, his attention. From now on she had it easy to get rid of the remaining cups.
During this whole procedure Bruce could not help but watch her suspiciously. Something was special with this woman. Something that had caught his attention but he couldn'd say exactly what it was.
Suddenly in the general turmoil one of the men laughed out loud and thus slammed his palm flat on the table.
That sound made the woman jump which led to that she nearly dropped the tray. Fortunately she caught it and herself in time. Afterwards she throw a quick glance around to see if anyone has noticed her little malheure. Bruce looked away secretly but he could not avoid a little smile on his face.
