In fairness he supposed, at the end of the day, the main thing was that the President had been saved. Getting his face on the news was a perk, but in a weeks time, the general public would be better able to tell you who'd been voted off their favorite reality show, than what Agency had foiled a terrorist plot.
The agents themselves would know, but who got the credit for an operation was a matter for the head honchos at the Bureau to worry about. Granted, when facing budget meetings up on the Hill, it was always nice to be able to drop a few comments about how maybe next time they wouldn't be able to save the day if those pencil pushing accountant morons didn't make keep their funding going. Fornell didn't really care about that. He was an agent, not a politician. The job had been done with a minimum of casualties, and so what if that bastard Gibbs and his motley crew had been the ones to put it all together.
Fornell did though spare a silent regret that he hadn't thrown that body bag out of the car just a little bit harder. That NCIS team had been creative, he'd had to give them that. Zipping that DiNotzo character into a bag was something he'd have never come up with. Zipping Gibbs into a body bag on the other hand.
Fornell poured himself a drink and raised a silent toast to Commander Trapp and Major Kerry before knocking it back. He looked at his watch and groaned.
All he really wanted to do was put his feet up and watch a game, any game. But he'd promised his sister that he'd go on this blind date she'd set him up with. Or rather, he hadn't been able to get out of it. It would do his reputation no good with his fellow Feds if they knew that Special Agent Tobias Fornell couldn't stand up to his baby sister!
So he'd agreed to this date to please her, and to please her he'd make an effort. It was a bit of a coincidence though, meeting two people named Gibbs in the same week. "She's about five foot six, red hair and one ex-husband," Martha had told him. "Be nice to her or you'll have me to answer to!"
"Hope you told her the same thing," Fornell had grumbled. But he'd agreed to the date and now he couldn't weasel out of it. "Ah well," he told himself as he went to get changed. "At least this Gibbs should be a lot prettier."
